Here's the parking lot at the Upper Kananaskis Lake that I had mentioned to SN-III about going to as the destination for a September 2017 day trip. A day trip for the Calgary guys anyway. Sadly though,It has a lot more gravel than I hoped to see.
For you guys in Red Deer,Edmonton and points further north ( Grande Prarie and such )there's the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino at the junction of Hwy 1 and Hwy 40. It's quite a nice hotel actually and they have a weekend buffet Thursday through Sunday evenings. Saturday night is Prime Rib night. $25.99 if I recall. I've hit all 4 nights over the years. Steak and lobster on Fridays. There is a link to the buffet on their website. There's also an indoor pool too.
As well,if you got the $$$ ,there's also a helicopter tour company operating out of the northeast corner of the resorts parking lot that takes you on 4 different tour packages....not cheap for what you get !!
