Long loooong laundry list of upgrades, maintenance and functionality that I've been putting off successfully for a couple of months is slowly creeping up on CCF.

Some features that are coming up with this upgrade:

1. HTTPS (security), we will shortly begin redirecting all traffic from http to https. Our address will change from http://Canadian Corvette Forums to https://www.canadiancorvetteforums.com. You don't need to change anything as redirection will be automatic.

I'm not going to explain the technical details as they sell over the counter pills for this if you want to take a long nap but it's essentially providing additional security between your browser and our servers. This is not a necessity as we are pretty secure and you shouldn't keep your credit card numbers on your profile on CCF :) but new browsers and the internet at large is now moving to this standard and new versions of browsers will soon be posting more prominent warning when you access non-https sites and exchange password data. It's a good thing overall.

Until we fully migrate to https be prepared to receive some strange 'Mixed Content' warnings.

2. Prep work for the mobile app. Some behind the scene upgrades and changes to prepare the forums for our mobile app experience. This will be transparent to all of you.

3. Groups and sub-forums. Finally rolling out features to support our social groups functionality. These will be similar to facebook groups (or basically forums within the forum) and will allow clubs, sponsors as well as non profit groups to apply and setup their own memberships within the CCF fold. We hope to see some clubs and groups transitioning to them.

There will be a little downtime in the next few days as the above occurs. I'll post warnings ahead of time.

Thanks for reading.

First round of upgrades are now complete. Drop me a note or a post on here if you experience any issues.

This upgrade brings more security features and a better picture uploader on mobile devices.

Updates to user maps.

We've introduced some small but possibly userful upgrades for all registered members. Our User Map located in your member profile card as well as here: http://www.canadiancorvetteforums.com/usermap/ now has some nifty enhancements including setting up a radius of members local to you and initiating conversations with all members within that radius. It's a little experimental so use with cautious. Also be careful you don't message a few thousand members at once or you'll totally be more popular than a Hyundai Sonata review thread.

Hi NIK... I love the new stuff thank you..
The MAP is coool.
Is it possible to add a filter to see members that have been active within the past year or 2, or 3, or 4, ..etc.
Some members haven't been on here for 5+ years.
I would find that useful. Sometimes I might want to see ALL, other times just active members.
thanx pal.

Great idea Graham. I'll put it on the list.

Update on our switch to HTTPS. I finally have some time and am planning on doing this tonight (hopefully).

Protocol changes are never ever smooth so guaranteed there will be some glitches (images missing, your browser may throw the odd mixed content warning etc etc), please bear with us. I'm hoping to get it sorted out in a day or so.

What will happen exactly:

1. Forum will become https://www.canadiancorvetteforums.com
2. All your old links, bookmarks etc should not need changing, everything will redirect to the new address
3. You will be logged off and will need to login again (if you clicked on Stay Logged in option)
4. Your password manager and/or browser (if you have saved passwords) may complain and not give you your CCF password so you'll need to re-enter it and re-save it again
5. Your browser MAY give you strange warnings like Mixed Content errors or this site may not be secure errors, please ignore these, they will go away eventually
6. Some images may be missing, or you may see an X in place of images. Please report these if they have not been resolved in a day or so.

If things go horribly wrong I will rollback this change but so far it's been ok in testing.

Alright, pulled the bandaid off and did the upgrade. From limited testing it's looking ok aside from a couple of signature pics that have gone missing.

You should all be seeing a little padlock or 'Secure' message and/or https:// before the canadiancorvetteforums.com address in your browser. This indicates that your session to our servers is secure.

Please keep an eye and drop a note if you see wonky things.

Thanks.

I did a form e-mail from the Contacts screen, but I did have a bit of trouble with the upgrade.

I do acknowledge that we were indeed informed of the upgrade happening and that we would have to login again, but I couldn't login for days. Now, in the forum's defense, I guessed several times for the right password because I just don't remember, lol. But still, I tried to reset my password, and never received an e-mail with instructions. I finally guessed the password correctly and got back in after several days.

I do like the main page better now, though. I like the idea of the 'feature' thread, and the list of the top topics in each section is excellent. Perhaps more feedback to come as I look around, but it does look good so far!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm surprised that you didn't get a password reset email as I am really careful about our email deliverability. Have you checked your spam folder and would you mind trying another reset for me? You don't have to actually reset just curious to see the email delivered.

Thanks for the nice words.

I have checked my mail and my spam folder and there is nothing. I am still receiving notifications just fine, but no reset message.

Thanks. I'm going to attribute this to a glitch at this stage as we've tested password resets pretty thoroughly yesterday and today. If you're still having issues please PM me and I'll work with you to resolve.

Cool enough, Nik. If you've tested it thoroughly, then it is probably a problem on my end. Maybe an incomplete profile, or a script disable. No problem. I'm in and browsing, so nothing to resolve. Thanks man!
