Hi folks, due to a minor differential leak where it butts up to the transmission, I have just spent about 12 hours replacing the 6" O-Ring and the seal in the plate that sits between tranny and the differential only to still have a minor leak. Besides my frustration I'm starting to wonder if I might have an transmission output shaft wobble causing seal failure. I replaced the transmission output shaft seal 2 years ago when I got the car.

Not sure where to go with this. A tranny shop, a dealer or such up another few evening to pull it all apart again.

Any thoughts or advice is much appreciated.

So the local transmission shop here in Ottawa says 1/16" movement (MAX) (top to bottom or side to side)....I'll check mine tonight but think I may be facing a new or rebuilt transmission....Arrrrhhhh.....the excess movement is testing the output shaft seal causing the minor leak :-(

ughhhh.... feeling your pain.... Good luck....

So I thought I would report my findings.......my output shaft has just one .125 or 1/8th play top to bottom. I've put all new seals in and have my fingers crossed that it hold out if not it will be time to spend some dollars. I will admit that I am getting pretty damn good at taking the whole rear sub-frame down.....between 7 and 8 hours this time. I must be honest and admit that I have a four post life in the garage and that makes a major difference...not sure I would do it on the floor at 50 but that it what we had to do back in the day.

To no great surprise, she continue to leaks :-( Oh well what can you do other than call the specialists.....I'll jump on that when I have a few minutes at work tomorrow so stay tuned to see what a transmission rebuilt is going to set me back.

Awwww..... that's a shame Racer. 1/8 doesn't sound like much but it is what it is. I hope you are surprised with the rebuild and it turns out as good as it can be.... All I can offer is advice to pick a good shop.... :)

Hi Racer66...
You have given it your best.... Twice.
It's maybe time to go to the next level and get 'er done!

Good luck.

I'll be dropping her off for an assessment tomorrow morning...... would be nice to have her back on the road for the weekend!!

So a brand new transmission is on order. Besides the run out of the output shaft the transmission hosing has a crack in it also, both leading to the leak. Hope to be back up and running by next weekend when I start vacation. Let's hope there is some cash left for gas!!!!

R66...
Sorry to hear you needed a new tranny but glad to know you will be back on the road soon.
Put this behind you.

Graham

I'm back on the road again! With a 3 year 160,000km warranty to boot! Just need a good 4 wheel alignment that my brother will do for me after work tomorrow. Savings are over rated anyway!!! LOL! 5 Grand all said and done! As my mum used to say "you cant take it with you"!!!

All aligned and driving once again like a million bucks thanks to my bro!! Lots of good weather yet to enjoy!

Good to hear it got fixed but not good to hear it required a new transmission, however, knowing it's fixed, with a warranty has to be a good feeling!
