Ouch. One factor is your deductible; if it's high (ie. $1,000) then it's a no-brainer and you should pay for it w/o making an insurance claim. But if it's only $250, I'd suggest contacting your insurance company and asking how much your premium increase will be and for how long, if you make that claim. And then there's the question of whether your insurer gives you "one free claim" meaning there's no premium increase if you've only got the one claim within (for example) a 5 year time span. If that applies to you, you'll have to decide if you "use up" your one free claim on this little one.

So it's hard to answer your question w/o knowing more about your circumstances and even then, it's of course your call. Good luck!

Free claim. $500.00 deductible. Cost high because the R (racing) pkg. was an expensive option and I have to replace a tiny portion of the decal; but, have to buy the whole decal - $700.00 - ouch. So, I've decided to just pay it!! Make sense to do that in case something really bad happens?

Damn, just damn. I would go out of pocket if it were my decision.

Is there more damage than just the picture you posted? Where's the decal that got damaged?

From the pic you showed the paint got scrapped off or something, is that piece CF? You probably can find a place that can blend the damage back in with the same red colour and 97% of the time you won't notice anything. If it's CF that can be repaired then blend the paint over it and it'll be as good as new.

As for claiming this on insurance.............just cough up the money and get it fixed it's minor and knowing insurance companies they'll find any reason to jack your rates up because of a claim no matter what they offer with forgiveness this or that they just want your money and don't ever want to pay out without a fight.

An insurance claim will also likely end up on Car Fax as well, leading to other resale issues.
Yes for sure. Very minor scuff.

Just what I did. Picked it up yesterday. So happy to drive it again. Paint match looks perfect.

BC, in trying to reduce the cost of provincially owned insurance, has modified the system so there is no "free" claims. I scuffed the front "splitter" on my SLK a few years ago, The scuff could not be seen and debated fixing. I spoke with ICBC rep and was told because my claims record was good, no increase to insurance so had it repaired. This year my insurance went up substantially on another vehicle. So I again called ICBC and was told their new policy was retroactive 3 years, and applied to my other vehicles (2 motorcycles and an SUV) and with the increase applied to all my insurance over the next few years I would be paying more than $2500 and if a second claim during this period the insurance would go up about $4500. I ended up paying ICBC back for the $2000 claim and my insurances dropped accordingly.

As far as PPF, its not magic so if OP had PPF it would have been scraped off so maybe good he did not have it done (yet).

I am talking from my previous experiences with insurance by making a claim every year for 3 years consecutive and none of them was my fault. Insurance are the biggest crooks. They are very fast at taking your money but when you need them, they make you pay even more indirectly after when you are label as a high risk driver.

First year: A monk rear ended me at a red light.
2nd year: Car was parked in the street and a drunk driver lost control and hit my car.
3rd year: Back window blew up in a hot summer (maybe from one of the previous accidents).
4th year: Insurance sent me a letter denying to insured me anymore.

Try calling every insurance companies and they will make you pay big time if you are labeled as a high risk driver. Lesson learned, only involve insurance for a very big claim and keep it under 2. Last time my wife scuff the back of her car in an underground parking lot and we just suck it up and pay from our own pocket to get it fix.

Something does not add up. You are not a high risk driver if you were not the cause of these accidents. Your only claim was a rear window. No reason you should be denied insurance, and not even a reason to raise your premium. What company was this?

I was thinking like you that those accidents was 100% not my fault and It should not matters but I was wrong: insurance works on statistics and categorize you as high risk for multiple of claims in a short period of time. It goes the same for tickets so remember that accidents/claims (at fault or no fault) are on your record for minimum 5 years and tickets for 3 years. Insurance will look for any excuses to raise your premium if you do not have a clean record (no accidents and no tickets) and that is a fact so always contest your speeding tickets even if the cops reduced it.

Somewhat off topic, but I just put back my C8 back on road coverage for April and my insurance premium increased by $400 since I paused it.... the coverage only started in December when I took ownership and I paused it mid-month for the winter. There's been 0 changes to my driving history & no claims/tickets since then... yet they somehow can justify a $400 increase? Absolute scam.

So WHO your insurance company?. They are not all like that.

Yes, I asked the member that because supposedly they were denied insurance after having 1 broken window claim. It would be beneficial to find out what insurance companies denied insurance and/or a copy of the letter denying insurance.

In Ontario "The insurance company must inform you in writing of which rule or rules it has applied to deny coverage." (FSCO)
and even an at-fault accident that is less than $2000 (minor accident at-fault) cannot be used to increase premium. so it seems unlikely the insurance company could raise the premiums let alone deny insurance.
