I've been poking around the forum for some bit, and there are a smattering of posts/threads about tires for C8's ... it would be nice to get everyones thoughts & opinions & experiences all under one mega thread.

Having said that, I need new tires this Spring and I'm unsure what to buy. Summers? All Seasons? Run Flats? Non Run Flats?

I have Michelin Pilot Sports now (Summers) and they suck up and spit out gravel like there is no tomorrow. They are hellish in a parking lot for tight turns also.

Looking forward to everyones thoughts, and sorry for re-kindling the topic I'm sure has been beat around for years.

If it's tire hop your talking about, your parking lot tight turn hell is called the Ackerman Theory and new tires won't make a difference. Your outside turn tire follows a longer radius, and thus travel a longer distance than the inside and front tires have to scrub jump during a tight turn to catch up.

Did not know that, but thank you. Thread was already worth posting ;)

I still have the factory summer tires on my C7, but when they wear out I am definitely going to get all seasons. I made that switch on my C5 at the time, and the difference in traction in wet weather was amazing. I drive the C7 until they start salting the roads so traction will be better on cold dry days also.

I went to non run flats on the C5...but mainly because back then (about 15 years ago) the run flats were double the price of non run flats. Not sure if that has changed in the meantime. I figured that if I got a flat CAA could tow me to wherever I need to go to get it repaired/replaced. Never actually got a flat in the end anyway.

I have (two) new PS4’ 305’s off the rear of my new 2025 Z51 with 26 miles on them changing them out this Friday they will be for sale on Saturday- anyone want em let me know

Ya only narrower tires would help there. I'd go for narrower front tires on a daily driver myself.
There in lies the folly in the “ fill in the wheelwell gap “ with spacers debate . If you look from the back of the car and not down on an angle at either rear corner you will see that the tires from the factory are perfectly aligned with the body . Just saying that I’m right lol .

I have had several sets of the Michelin Pilot Sports 4S (summer only) on my C7s and they were very good tires except once the weather got cold they were a hand full when pushed letting go very abruptly if not fully warmed up which takes a good 30 minutes of driving in the cold. Michelin cautions you not to drive them below 5C and I have tested it. I eventually switched to the Pilot Sport AS (all season) tire and liked them better. Quieter, less harsh ride and longer life. Best of all super in the rain and no significant deterioration of performance on those early November drives when the temps approach freezing yet the roads are still great. I was delighted when my C8 (non Z51) came with the Pilot Sport AS4 all season tires. They are quiet and I now have 36,000 km and still 5mm of tread - they start with 7.5 mm. The AS tires also have less Akerman effect on those slow tight parking lot turns. However, do not think they are snow tires, even Michelin warns that they are NOT snow tires. they are a very high performance tire whose compound allows you to drive in colder weather. Michelin says there is about a 5% loss of lateral grip at the limits from their 4S tire. Having done the Ron Fellows School in Nevada I know that my C8 is never going to be pushing the limits of lateral grip on public roads.

Great post , thanks for sharing
David, I was going to say what David WG said. I switch over to my spare set of rims with the AS Pilot Sports in October and am still running them now. Unless you like to do 2-3X the posted speeds on the highway on ramps you will be fine with the AS's. The performance drop is minimal but the tread wear is almost 2.5 times as much. I use my other tires on the track where the extra grip is desired and really noticeable. Mag ride makes up for the harshness between the two. Both of them corner like the car is on rails, so if your not tracking, the AS works very well Z51 or not. I have driven the AS
with both Z51 and non Z51 and unless your pushing it, there is no noticeable difference.

Buy

Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS or SportContact 6 if you want Summer only

I ran the DWS6 on my 2019 Grand Sport and was amazed at the traction, smoothness and quiet road sounds. (NOT run flat however)

The DWS will be my next tire on my C8 for touring and comfort, I don't track my car.

I find there is a lot of understeer in roundabouts with the A/S tires. I've been humming and hawing about what tires to get next. I'd like to get summers and snows, but at my stage in life I wonder if I could really be bothered changing the wheels around twice a year since I'll never drive it in the snow.

Murray with the Z51 and the A/S tires, no understeer for me. They are almost as good as the 4S's. Takes about and hour to change them over in the fall and late spring. Front lift helps get my jack under the front lifting points. Also did tire rotation after track day. The two sets of tires gets me all but the days with snow and ability to use the car from early March through December.

I did that for 20 years with my Camaro. Could not be bothered to do it again unless there is some real gain with the summer tires. From what I'm hearing, there isn't. My car is a non Z51. Don't like spoilers.

I just ordered a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 PLUS. My old tires are the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I just couldn't justify the cost of these things new. I don't plan to track the car, and I believe the reviews are pretty amazing for the DWS06 Plus's.

There is a guy selling a whole set of the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in Michigan (posted on another forum). If you can drive your car there and have it swapped out at a shop, it would be your best option. He is asking $900 USD for the set of 4.

I just so happen that I got my new summer tires delivered to my surprise. I thought they were to be delivered to my tire installer. 😀

These are the Yokohama Advan Apex. $1921. out the door. Price o
is right. It would have cost almost the same for 2 rear 315/30/20 Michelin. Check out Wheelsco.ca . They are in the GTA.
