Sorry Murray about your car finding a nice pothole. I paid a visit to my worst one in 30+ years in Edmonton while driving home from work in the dark this past winter: it destroyed a front rim, the tire on it, plus the rear tire on that same side. I was just able to limp home before there was zero air in my front tire. Fortunately I had a tire/rim warranty. It looked after the one rim plus the tire on it that could no longer hold air and had a HUGE sidewall bubble. But better yet, the roadway in question was a main artery and looked after by the Province of Alberta even though it was within Edmonton's City limits. So a few emails later with attached photos, repair estimates and bills which set out the warranty coverage, and the adjusters for the Province cut me a cheque for the one remaining tire replacement. Actually, it wasn't the Province itself; but rather a contractor hired by the Province to look after all Provincial roads and I dealt with their insurance adjusters.

I mention this in case you have a similar recourse against the Province of Ontario. The roadway you're on looks to be a rural setting and likely the responsibility of the Province??

Then on another note, I've hit potholes within the City of Edmonton that have caused sidewall tire bulges which meant a new tire was needed, especially when dealing with high speed rated tires. There's a mechanism to make a claim with the City of Edmonton but I'm told they take different approach compared to the Province and supposedly only about one in ten claims are paid.

Whatever happens, if it's expensive enough you can make a claim against the responsible party, in "Small Claims Court" if they don't voluntarily pay. I say all this w/o knowing the law in Ontario but I suspect you'll have the right to make a claim. Good luck!

PS: I did turn up the volume but still couldn't make out what was said when you hit the pothole. Care to give us a quote?  :)
