Question Tie rod distance

Hi guys, I gave a 1977 model year. I have rebuilt the front end completely, and have reused the original spindles, steering knuckles and caliper mounts. My problem is the distance between the center of outer tie rod and the rim on the driver's side is 2 inches, on the passenger side it is 1 1/4 inches. This as near as I can figure is in the steering knuckle itself.it seems off to me ,but the center of these cars are off to the right side. Is this a anomaly or is this the normal position of the tie rods.any and all answers would be greatly appreciated

Hey Tom. I see it's been a while since you posted this. I have to adjust my front coil overs sometime so I will have a look at the tie rods and let you know.

I had a chance to go under my car today and did some measuring. My rims are inset so I couldn't measure to them but I measured to my dust shields. The dust shields to the center of the tie rod ends measures 2" on both sides. My guess if you have one side that is closer to the rim, the steering knuckle arm on that side may be bent.

I did measure my tie rods incase you're curious about those measurements. I have recently done an alignment on the car and the steering is centered and the car tracks straight. The passenger side is about 15" long and the drivers side is slightly longer at roughly 15.75".

Hi Cody, thanks for that. I am 2 inches on the driver's side, dust shield to center of tie rod , and 1 1/2 on the passenger side. I will let you know what I find.

Hi Cody, as suspected it was in the steering knuckle, I changed it out and it all measures out from side to side approximately 2 1/8 from dust cover to tie rod center. Although they look the same the one that came of my car seems to have a slight twist when put against the new part. On its own this is not visible. The one taken off the car is the one with the chipped paint.the part numbers are the same and they even line up when turned one way ( center pic) but the difference can be seen in the first picture, and the slight twist in the 3rd.
