The paint on my bumper where the headlight has been rubbing due to vibration has chipped off. It’s a 2024 and the dealer wants to repaint to repair it

My 2024 c8 red mist tint coat has paint rubbed off at the bumper front headlight contact due to vibration, the dealer wants to repaint it but I’m worried about paint matching has anyone else run into this issue

I noticed it when I picked up my car last December and had it corrected before it drove it more than a couple hundred kilometres in the spring.

My friend who picked up his in the spring had the same issue with the drivers side lens touching the body.

Basically you can use a piece of paper and run it around the headlights to see if it touching the body. If the paper jams it is touching and needs to be corrected. GM allows four plus hours for the dealership to correct it. I requires complete removal of the front facia.

Yes thanks happy camper I saw the bulletin you sent and my damage would be at the number one contact. Not sure if I should have them repaint it or live with it,worried about matching paint colour

If it was me they would be fixing it.
Not sure where you bought you car but that doesn't matter as any GM dealer can do the work.
Stress that you are very worried about paint match, that way they know they can't phack around.

Wilson Niblett is affiliated with CarStar next door to their showroom.
Highly rated body shop and that would be were the work would be done.

Yes bought the car at Wilson Niblett and they were very good with me today walked me to that body shop and explained everything to me. Set up an appointment next April to have it repaired. I guess I’m wondering if I should live with it or have it repaired but concerned about how the paint will match.. They are willing to just paint the small area instead of whole fascia and even replace PPF and ceramic coat

Very common problem on the C8. But…..It is so small, its laughable. A dab of touchup paint will do.

Otherwise you risk them f’ing it up more than it is already. And they always do. Pulling off the front skin means it may now not line up and rub in other places. The tolerance on plastic GM panels is bad. Don’t let them touch it. Take it from someone who knows. Or do, and then come back to school me how wrong I was.

And blowing paint means the car had “paintwork” and that means it is less pristine at sell time. And it will never match is sheen or color, and will bother you for the rest of time. If this flyspeck bugs you now, imagine what blown paint will do to your psyche!

Yes that’s what I’m worried about.i would rather buy a used vette with a few stone chips than one that’s been repainted. My black C5 hood got damaged in the garage by a fallen object and although it looked good after the repair it started to fade over the years even parked indoors. Thanks for your input, much appreciated

I had a new roof painted and they matched it perfectly. They have tools to not only recreate the exact colour but they can also scan a part of the car to get the right colour. They can also use touch up paint to do it. I wouldn't hesitate to have a reputable pro do any of the above.
When my Camaro was rear ended PFAFF repaired it. They no longer do body work, but a good shop can do it all.

Thank you I appreciate your information

Regardless, to address the rubbing/clearance issue the front bumper is coming off fully anyway to adjust the headlight pods.

Wilson-Niblett did mine and my friends months apart and both have no scratches or alignment issues. I checked clearances after the repairs and everything is good. It looked better then when it came from the factory.
The service advisor mentioned that they have one guy that is really good at this type of meticulous work and is an apparently is the only one that works on that types of fitment work.

Trust me there are more than just the two of us whom have had this done. If there is a bulletin it is a bigger issue than a handful of cars and when I let them know about the problem they are very aware of the factory fit issue.

Touch paint is a band-aid solution. If it chipped off already, what will happen to the touch paint in a couple of months unless the bumper is removed, paint chip touched up and headlight pods adjusted.

But is your car and you can do what you like with it. If i was buying it used and saw touch up paint I would walk away.
But that is just me as I am anal about paint finish scratches, hence the full PPF on mine.

Thanks I’ll have to talk with Ricco my service advisor about re-aligning the gaps

I had the chips on both headlights touched up and looks perfect but then I have torch red probably the easiest to touch up. They also realigned the fenders. A year later still looks perfect. The GM bodyshop told me if you have the front end painted and has PPF on it will be the owners expense to re-apply.
