I took my car out for a run yesterday over to Washago to watch trains then north to Gravenhurst to see if there were any interesting boats at the marina. Those of you who know the area are aware that the exit off Highway 11 North to Gravenhurst is a bit unusual, its on the left side of the road.

I was getting close to the exit, looked in the mirror and saw nothing coming, put on my signal and went over into the outside lane. Seconds later a car, which turned out to be a Subaru (I think) blew past me on the inside lane. I would suspect he was going about 225 in a 90. He was rapidly catching up to traffic and you have to negotiate a tight right hand turn on Highway 11. As old DW would say he had some trouble getting her whooood down.

Honestly it scared the crap out of me, I was probably in the outside lane 10 seconds when he blew past. In all the years I have driven I have never seen a car go by so fast on a public road. Stupid is I guess just Stupid.

Just one of the reasons I opted for the NAV w/PDR on my 2015 C7. When I had my '71 LT1 a thousand years ago, everyone running any kind of tin was trying me on. I will always have the 'dash cam' portion of the PDR running for that precise occurrence. It is amazing nothing tragic happened. It's back to the famous Forrest Gump quote I guess.

Might he have been trying to impress the Corvette guy? I guess he did.....with his stupidity. ;)

Keith, I am just not sure. I wonder if he even saw me until he was nearly on top of me. I looked, that is one thing I am certain about because I really don't like that interchange for the very reason of having to merge then exit from the "fast" lane.

I have nothing against going fast but there is a time and place for it. With so many people out and about on Saturday I really think it was irresponsible. No question in my mind now, they are fast cars. Wish I could recall the model, it has a small wing on the back.

Good suggestion and practice about the on board camera(s). Sometime technology really can make a difference.

Murray, there are some very irresponsible people on the roads these days. Almost makes you wonder about the driving inspectors that okay them to have a licence. Close calls like that are never fun to experience and kinda ruins a good day of TRAIN WATCHING!!!

I have Torque Pro on my phone and use it also as a dash cam/pdr.

I was thinking of investing in dedicated dash cams for all my cars, for this reason and the increase of insurance scammers in the Brampton area. The roads are full of morons, especially on 401/410.

Same reason I ordered the nav/recorder. Too many idiots trying to prove how wonderful they are. Go to a race track, not on a public road. Oh wait .... that requires some intellect. :agree:

Oh I hear you loud and clear! Spent too many years in Bramalea. The caliber of driver diminishes with each passing year I swear. My wife notices my driving habits change when I drive down Airport Road from Collingwood. As soon as I get into the 'hood my demeanour changes and my stance is far more wary and far less tolerant.

I was on the 407 heading west from the 427 doing a buck twenty in the SLOW lane in my Jeep when I guy came out of nowhere and was flashing his lights in the slow lane wanting me to pull over! Damn fool in a Honda Civic with one of those go faster fart tubes whizzes by me ON THE SHOULDER giving me the ol' single finger salute. What the...?

More evidence of sheer stupidity:

Back in the late '90's I was driving back from Hamilton and just arriving back in Cambridge when I slowed to 60 to 65kph coming into town on a 4 lane stretch, 60 zone ...... suddenly a car came up so fast and passed me on the inside. He was going so fast he literally shook my car (a Ford Contour).
I'd guestimate his speed at something like 150 to 200kph, and fast enough to shake my car quite noticeably from the air pressure movement as he past ------ shook me up pretty good too when I thought of what could have happened......

Oh, and this guy was no doubt showing off to his passenger in his shiny new C5.

Beauty ride -- stupid driver.

I'm guessing that we've all had a few close calls like yours and mine.....
It sure shakes you up when it happens.

I find myself driving more defensively all the time ........

I watch too many YouTube videos of people being stupid who think they can handle it so it always makes me think it over before doing something stupid I think I can handle.....although, I am a pretty damn good driver. :p
It only takes one pothole, or patch of gravel, deer, whatever to cause a serious accident so 95% of the time, I just keep it steady.
