Some people say don't remove them but a later TPI engines don't have a MAF and no screens just straight through. I'm leaning towards removing them. They are restricting air flow. If you were to put all the screen in one spot it would block a good size chunk of air flow.

I am not sure that you wont have a turbulence problem around the sensor. If I am wright, these screen where there to prevent the turbulence problems. Is there is a snap ring to hold it so you can remove it and put it back if it does not work properly? I am not sure I would of destroy that screen if did not have a spare one.

Do NOT remove or damage the screen. The MAF sensor is either a part of the screen, or is behind the screen and calculates according to the airflow it expects to see coming through the screen. Removing it would be highly likely to f*** things up.

I agree l had aproblem a few years ago and it turned out to be an air mass flow sensor which costed upwards of over $500. Then one year later they told me l needed another one when the first one lasted 20 Years!! I figured they put in a recon one that fritzed out after a year and had to be replaced again . Fok!
