Hope it helps.</p><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-size: 22px"><strong>Corvette V8-6.0L VIN U (2005)</strong></span></p><p></p><p><strong>Axle Nut: All Technical Service Bulletins</strong></p><p><strong>Drivetrain - Rear Axle Nut Torquing Procedure</strong></p><p>Bulletin No.: 05-04-95-001</p><p>Date: November 11, 2005</p><p>INFORMATION</p><p>Subject:</p><p>Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Nut Torque Specification Requirements and Information on Replacement Shafts For Service</p><p></p><p></p><p>Models:</p><p>2004-2006 Cadillac XLR</p><p>2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette</p><p>Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Nut Torque Procedure</p><p><strong>Note:</strong></p><p>^</p><p>If service requires the removal and reinstallation of the rear wheel drive shaft retaining nut, it is CRITICAL to follow the torque procedure below.</p><p>Failure to follow the torque procedure may result in a inadequate torque specification.</p><p>^</p><p>If service requires removal and reinstallation of the rear wheel drive shafts, clean the inboard mating surface of the wheel bearing and the mating</p><p>surface of the axle shaft of any foreign material prior to assembly. Failure to properly clean the mating surface may result in an inadequate torque</p><p>specification.</p><p></p><p></p><p>1.</p><p>Insert a drift or punch into the brake rotor cooling fins and against the caliper to prevent the wheel hub and bearing from turning.</p><p>2.</p><p>Begin to install the drive shaft retaining nut onto the drive shaft by hand.</p><p>3.</p><p>Slowly tighten the nut to draw the drive shaft to the wheel hub and bearing.</p><p>Tighten</p><p>Tighten the drive axle spindle nut to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).</p><p>4.</p><p>Remove the drift or punch.</p><p>Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Assembly Available for Service</p><p><strong>Note:</strong></p><p>^</p><p>If service requires the removal of the rear wheel drive half shaft retaining nut, it is CRITICAL to follow the torque procedure above.</p><p>Failure to follow the torque procedure may result in a inadequate torque specification.</p><p>^</p><p>If service requires the replacement of the rear wheel drive shafts, clean the inboard mating surface of the wheel bearing and the mating</p><p>surface of the axle shaft of any foreign material prior to assembly.
