Spoke to salesman Duecks that really knows corvettes: this car is for sale for MSRP of $172,400.00 - loaded - top option pkg. etc. Problem here in B.C.: NDP government had increased PST rate on expensive vehicles - at $125K or so and $150K - so, this car with PST & GST = 26% tax - ouch. Already lost sale on this car - so decided to sell for MSRP.

Ouch. That’s a pile of tax to pay. Love BC but not the taxes etc. Interesting that they list it as used with 400kms on it. A dealer registered demo car perhaps? They have it listed for 200K but obviously you got the real story on price. 👍

Actually, when I saw this car first it was shown in show room at $220K. Yeah the NDP have to get money somehow to pay for all their crazy programs. Imagine buying a $400K+ ferrari - ouch!!!! Or a loaded Tesla? Just crazy. Apparently, the dealers did not know about this huge tax increase until it happened. The salesman is going to get back to me about adding a different wing? No way I am buying though and paying all the tax. Bad enough getting killed on my trade (only 7000 Km) and then paying a huge tax bill? Even if you bought and minimally drove it (me don't go anywhere) and kept for 5 years hoping for the value to go up (last ZR1 before C8), you probably would never get the entire amount back. I would think that one will be able to buy a nice C8 for far less than $172,400.00?

Ya I’m thinking along the same lines. I would love to have this ZR1 but for sure it will deprecate like crazy from the MSRP price not to mention the prices people have paid over MSRP. Might be quite a lot better if they don’t produce a 2020 model but still it’s going to sting. For sure there will be some RWD purists that will be looking for C7 ZR1 for years to come so that is heavily in this cars favor too.
For 175k I’m pretty sure there will be a C8 car that will eat this C7 ZR1 for breakfast. Well I’m hoping anyway... if we only knew for sure.
A good rule of thumb is watch what I do; then do the opposite.
My track record sucks when it comes to this kind of non-emotional purchase. 😂

Just got off the phone with the service mgr. at Carter Gm here on the Northshore: the smaller wing is available; but, cost $10K plus installation if you want vs the the large wing. He said up to sales dept. how to deal with the issue. Just FYI everyone. I said " what about the larger wing that comes with the pkg. and you still have to purchase the other wing - makes no sense?

Wow that’s a pricey piece of carbon fibre. It’s really interesting how different answers are coming out about swapping out these wings. Literally black and white differences between dealerships and forums on availablity and if it’s even “possible”.

Good stuff and good to know if you’re sitting on the fence with getting a small wing car and thinking of adding the surf board later. 👍

Sweet looking inventory ...
Thanks also for posting this very helpful information.
Holy crap man ... darn good thing there's a whole lot of looking before leaping ... and it's why it's needed.
"ZR1 Party Balloons" popping with that BC tax. Wow.
Sure, not applicable in AB but still ...
$10k+ for the wing swap-out screams to just move along when considering a resale ... :greedy:

I recall when the first C6ZR1 came out in 2009 many started ordering and were shocked at the price also I might mention that doing a little modification it will probably be equal to or better than the C7 ZR1, and while we are at it the C7 Z51 convert equivalent to my C6 is heavier than mine. So not a lot in the C7 to really make one change. Now the C8 is really going to be interesting to view the specs on.

Makes sense to wait for C8. I am on the list already;but, will depend on trade-in and MSRP & now PST here has increased by our socialist NDP government - so, we shall see. I love my C7 - just an awesome handling, well equipped all the right options, nicely finished inside - great seats etc. and a real head turned with the shark skin grey metallic paint and red brake calipers. Love the A.T. and when put into M mode it really kicks ass!!

I’ve owned a C6Z which I loved, and 2 C7zs and can clearly state the move to the C7 is a big upgrade from the C6. Performance, convenience and comfort are significantly better.
Performance wise the difference between the 2 ZR1 generations is kind of subjective as Mods will improve the performance of either car but even a modded C6 ZR1 will not keep up to a stock C7 on a track due to the refinements of the C7 car. A modded C7 Z06 with equal drivers will not keep up to the stock C7 ZR1 due to specific ZR1 suspension tuning. This comes from the head instructor at Spring Mountain.
Yes the prices for the ZR1s were and are big but to have the king Corvette that’s the deal. They do hold the value pretty good though compared to the other models... so that’s one good thing.
I’m waiting for the C8 as well but would definitely get a C7 ZR1 before any other Corvette if the C8 turned out to be not to my liking.

Yeah! Can't argue with you. I was trying to make the same point C7 vs C6; but, more diplomatically - LOL. 26% tax here on a C7 ZR1 - crazy and all you pay in AB is the 5% GST - way less tax hit. I'd think about the C7 ZR1 but I don't want the big wing nor the high tax hit: without the performance pkg and a vert I might make it under $150K - not sure; but, then it probably would not have the value latter due to the absence of the performance pkg. which includes the monster wing at the back. Not sure I'd be safe with 750HP at my disposal - a lot of power for an old dude.

Oops I wasn’t trying to be undiplomatic. So apologies to @*ZR01# if it came across that way.
That tax in BC is outrageous as you guys are now restricted in what you buy for a Corvette unless you want to fork over an extra 20K or so for the same purchase in AB.

Ya I’m not sure you could get the non ZTK low winged car for under 150k. And yes the car would be harder to get big resale value as well I believe.
Let’s see what the C8 has for you under 150k. Hopefully a sweet 800HP Z06. 👍

Never too old for dialable power. 😀

I was pulling your leg - you know your stuff which is great. I guess you will be putting your car to bed up there in the far north eh?

I’m off to Asia for a month tomorrow so yes the car is tucked away for the winter. Pretty short season for me this year. Really only had July to enjoy the car. It’s like a nuclear winter here in Edmonton the last few weeks so September was a wash for cruises as well.
Next year is only a few months away... 😂

So here's the thing for those of you looking to avoid the 26% tax in B.C. . Remember that you only pay the tax in the province where the vehicle is registered. Surely people in B.C. have friends in neighbouring AB or SK? Or maybe not....lol. You put a temporary plate on the car to get it out of the province ($25.00 a day). Or just buy it in AB or SK. Register it in AB or SK......and then "move back" to B.C. and the car is part of your "settlers affects". Non-taxible. Done. All this hassle didn't used to be worth it, but when we are talking about 10s of thousands of dollars.....uh...yeah. I move a lot....no law against transience....hahaha...

We deal with this so called "luxury tax" all the time. Guy buys a new loaded truck for 70 to 80k and pays huge unless it is a one ton, no lux tax on those. This is part of the reason you see very few loaded up 3/4 trucks in BC, they are more expensive with the extra tax! More social engineering from the socialist government. If you are fortunate enough and have worked hard enough to afford a 180k car you have probably paid a fortune in income taxes already but apparently that's not enough for them.

Let's get this B.C. tax thing straight: The 5% federal gst is on all cars. The B.C. tax starts going up from 7 to 10 % on cars between$55,000 and $57,000. At over $125,000 it is 15% and at $150,000 it is 20%....It would be nice to register it in Alberta, but insurance and a B.C. drivers licence might put an end to that idea...Forget about the jealous friends and neighbours turning you in. In my area we do get to drive it all year because we are close to Victoria and all that hot air.
