Question prefered treatment

l was just wondering does the sales person or dealer make more money off a loaded 3lt than a semi optioned 1lt and would the 3lt dude get his car faster.
Presold … yes
Speculative Inventory … maybe
Delivery … faster to the one who settles their sale first.

"We" are seeing a C8 Circus right now … very similar to last year's ZR1 Circus.
Eventually for on-lot inventory C8's it may depend on the Dealership and economic/seasonal timing.
With C7's from 2016 to 2019, I saw pricing that had some Dealers selling
inventory where they would make less percentage on a price reduced 3LT than they
did on a 1LT that someone paid MSRP for.
What a salesperson makes … should not be a customer issue (employees are overhead costs)
On the flipside, the Dealer should make something in order to stay in business
and have their doors open for when we need them (like inclusive oil renews & warranty).
A good Business oriented Dealership (once you find one) should not segregate customers
and wait-lines based on what they buy as they are ready to sell/deliver whatever comes off
the truck because they then have an invoice from GM to pay for every one of them.

jmo based on watching the C7s (and not being hyped up on the C8 being any different)
as there are far more expensive trucks if price mattered.
Full-pop MSRP comparisons … goes without saying there is more money to make.

They definitely make more on optioned cars if both are sold at MSRP and yes the 2 C8's received already at my dealer were 3LT's as my dealer screwed the pooch and believed 1LT cars were on constraint.

For what its worth, this is my opinion.
1) the dealer makes more profit on a heavily optioned car vs. a base without question. Even on a straight percentage the dollars are higher.
2) GM certainly makes more making an optioned car over a base car and certainly would prefer to make higher optioned cars.
3) Some high volume dealers certainly would have more pull then low volume dealers. But I doubt they can actually influence the build schedule at BGA. I choose to believe that for the most part BGA would treat all orders on a FIFO basis. (Inventory term for First In, First Out) that would be the equitable way to deal with orders.
4) In this very difficult period of no ones design, is it possible that GM is favouring the production of higher value cars over base models? perhaps. But against this logic is the fact that C8Liz here just got their car built and it is a bare bones base 1LT. So clearly GM is not refusing to build base cars. Perhaps they will limit the qty of 1LT's and elect to build more 2LT's and 3LT's again, GM needs cash flow and would prefer to have higher margin cars in the mix.

I think that there are many thinking that they are being bumped in the line on the various forums. I doubt this is true, but in fact that some Dealers are over selling their allocation and some buyers are confusing a deposit paid as to the start of the clock. In fact the clock does not start until you have a GM Workbench Sold order in hand. Then the status code gauntlet begins. Lots of confusion out there in the market and I think communication from the top could certainly be better and more transparent.

I think patience and understanding is needed here as I have no doubt that GM and their dealers want to build and sell these cars. No one is happy having a single shift of production at this time. But we live in strange times. All will get cars eventually.

appears someone is humored to be the center of attention …
… not in a contrary opinion … so all in good fun …

After reading the above, I'll stick with my original posts...

Sweet position to be in … all your choice that I can only respond with
my reason that I would upgrade. Mainly so I don't run into the dreaded
"oh I shoulda..." or the "I wish I had …" as that really sucks.
Saying this from experience of buying my first Truck … thinking I can
compromise with what I tow and only to just then buy and
then want more power when having to launch a bigger yacht (er boat). :Banghead:
So treat yourself on the first Corvette you Buy if you can - you will not look
back wishing something was on your Corvette ...
by just sticking with your original post … er I mean … order. :angelic:

Mark send me a PM and we should talk. I'd like to compare notes re: Brian Cullen

Wow in Ontario those waiting lists are huge! I didn’t put down a deposit until Jan or Feb 2020. I can’t remember which. My car is set to be built the week of July 20th. One LT in Rapid Blue. Only options are performance exhaust and blue seatbelts. I owned three C7’s. Two 2LT Z51’s and a 3LT Z51 with every option available. I am cheap so I bought all those cars second hand. For my C8 it is my money and I could care less about all the options. They are nice to have but not for a miser like me.

If you would have ordered in Ontario after christmas you wouldn't be getting a 2020 you would be at 1100 Status

Just my opinion, with a bit of insider info, that there were a number of Canadian dealers that took deposits far beyond any expectation that they were going to receive near that many allocations. And that was long before either the strike or the Covid. Now will come the promise of a 2021 so they can keep you on the hook.
