I posted here a while back about buying a 1986 White coupe which as it turns out needs more work than this car is worth in my mind.
There were no records and its steering rack needs to be replaced.Mileage is 221K kilometers.

But the experience of learning from this vette and plenty of research has made me want a nicer one.
So locally a 1996 Collectors Edition has come up reasonably priced and I just got back from seeing the car.
I was able to see the UVIP for current owner and previous owner
This car was brought to Canada in 2007 from Florida so show no previous history to 2007.
Should I be worried about this? The records do have the name of who brought it to Canada.
But nothing prior.

Any experience with Florida cars? or is this a common practice?

I guess my only thought on this one would be flood damage but I would think that would show itself quickly. If you are serious about the car Matt have someone check it over, it is probably a good one but I would hate to think you got stuck with someone else's mess.

Best of luck, don't be in a hurry. Lots of them out there if this is not the one.

Matt, it's three days short of a year since I bought my '96 CE coupe. It had 44,000 miles on it, some unwanted changes (which I've now mostly reversed), but generally it was in great shape. Last summer I max-ed out my Hagerty policy mileage allowance, and intend to this year as well. So far, I'm enjoying it even more than the E-Type Jag, Lotus Super Seven, Datsun 240-Z, etc. that I've had! I'd be happy to share more of my experiences with the car if you want to get in touch.

9 years is a long time to be worried about flood damage at this point. If the car was driven, and from the looks of the mileage, it has, any potential issues would have shown up by now.

Carfax is only a useful tool for reported claims. It's a good start and will give you an idea as to it's reported service history. Some reading between the lines may be necessary.

Still, it's always a good idea to get it checked out by an independent mechanic, preferably from someone you don't know as well, as they can give you the most impartial advice as they have no stake in the matter.

Good luck with your search.

You are right Zeeman. The salt gets the electronics right away. I have heard about guys buying newer flood cars and could not get them to work, eventually selling them or parting them out. Relatives in Ireland won't even buy used cars that have spent any length of time along the coast. Strong on shore winds and high surf gets a spray into the air making things as bad as our winters as far as salt goes. We were in Daytona beach in 1968. One night there was the on shore wind and you had to keep using the windshield washer to clear the mess off the windshield. It surprised me at how far inland the spray carried.

I got the Carfax report and it was clean...I wanted to buy the car...however the owner of the CE insisted he didn't need the UVIP to make a transaction.
I'm pretty sure you do as you need to have it at ServiceOntario when you register the car.
He became adamnant to the point of 4-letter words so I pulled out.
Iwould have bought the UVIP myself.

This past weekend I looked at a nice 1991 black on black.
Drove for over an hour to see it.
Turned out it was a US car as indicated by the door stickers.
And I could tell there was some repainting on the bumpers and a few other spots.
Carfax..ed the VIN(UVIP went back to 2007).
It was involved in an accident in Ohio.

Pays to Carfax...

hahaha....I sent mine last night.... he's gonna think he's got a bunch of interest.... here's what I got back so yes.... car still available.

Couple questions before I get serious. Is the car still available? - YES

Is this a canadian car? Car originated in Florida

Have you done a carfax? I didn’t but one potential buyer did and the car was clear, you can tell its never been hit just by looking at the car.

How many previous owners? I am the 4th

Where did the car originate? See above

The car is super clean and must be seen to be appraised.

Thanks

I don't think the price is out of line for a 96 CE Matt. I would recommend taking it to a Corvette mechanic for a good check over. It doesn't take much in the way of needing brakes, rotors, and some front end work to add a few more thousand to a Corvette. If it's important to you that they match, the serial numbers could be checked as well.

Good Luck

Matt...
My buddy has what you are looking for and it's for sale.....
1996 LT-4 coupe, silver collector edition, 6-speed,

<20K kms. Really! Super clean.
Tons of paperwork...
Did I say clean yet... I've known this car for many years.
Asking <$25K.

<$25K way beyond my budget.
But as I was looking for a nice C4 a beautiful '86 in red presented itself..quite close by too.
Bright red..fresh paint done by a professional that specializes on vettes...very well maintained.
Has all the service receipts and was in same family since new.
Sellers father in law had it so he bought it years ago and kept it meticulously maintained.
Its a 4+3 and clutch was done(by a specialist) 4000kms ago.
And the price is right...
It will be mine soon so I will post pics on a new thread.
