It's been a long time coming but the promised CCF dedicated Mobile App is almost ready for showtime. To give you a brief rundown of what and why you should get it, here's a handy dandy list illustrating the pros and cons of the mobile app vs. browsing and using our forums on the web.
Mobile App Benefits:
Current limitations:
I will be publishing links to the app stores once we publish it. It should be a pretty short period of time or so I hope from now. The rollout will be Android first and iOS shortly after (within a few days depending on approval length of time).
Will keep you updated.
Mobile App Benefits:
- Very streamlined and fast experience, there will be minimal imagery, it will be very snappy and easier to type. If you're just after that minimalist experience the Mobile App is for you. It will be a native app so you'll get that native app experience whether you're on an iPhone or Android device.
- Push notifications - probably the biggest benefit at the moment. You get alerted instantaneously on your phone when a thread you're watching gets some action or you get a personal message then you can respond instantly for an almost real time chat experience.
Current limitations:
- Mobile app will not support all the fancy features we have from the get-go. This means if you're on a mobile device and want to create events, create or view a showcase, create a classified, view the map, you will not be able to do this with version 1.0. There are plans to bring these features into the app but be warned when I said minimalist it's really minimalist.
- Bugs, there maybe one or two that haven't been quashed. I'll update this thread with reporting instructions.
