OFF-GASSING

Before I begin to share this info I thought that it would be very helpful for anyone who has severe allergies. Everyone loves that new car smell, right ? Take a deep breath and enjoy ur new car. Well, you might want to think twice about this. The reason ur new car smells like it does is from a reaction know as "Off-Gassing". This is created when volatile organic compounds (VOC's) from the adhesives and sealants used in car manufacturing emit noxious gas into the passenger compartment. This reaction is actually very bad for you and can make some people sick. The best way to get rid of this is to crack ur windows a bit and let the fresh air naturally remove it from ur interior. Estimated to take several months. If this info helps only 1 person on the forum I will be happy !

There are no recent studies to verify any of this.
There are things that can be done if you need to.
Most of us aren't sensitive to it. Like peanut allergies.
For most there are worse things to worry about IMO.

Just had my rims painted and even though the paint is hard to the touch the smell from the off gassing is very strong. Headache material. When the curing process is done the smell will be gone but not until. This is off gassing

Some people are very sensitive to smells thats why at some work places like hospitals you are not allowed to wear perfume as it really irritates certain people. That is a fact

You don't have to tell me. It bugs the heck out of me! Gags me when it's too strong. Not necessarily dangerous though.

Older German cars from the 80's and 90's have this smell that is hard to beat. It just smells like quality and character!

Off gasing is nothing new just think about all of the household cleaning agents and paints that are off gasing

I did out gas in my C7 when I had it (forbidden in a C8) and the `perfume` migrated into the perforations and leather.
I had an increase in gas milage due to nobody wanted a ride anymore.
