Many of you know that Martin Truex won the NASCAR Championship in Homestead, Florida yesterday.

His engineer/crew chief is a 35 year old fellow by the name of Cole Pearn. Pearn is a Canadian who is from the London, Ontario area. His dad was a short track racer as was Cole Pearn who started racing at London, Ontario's Delaware Speedway then moved on to the CASCAR/Pinty's series.

He left the drivers seat in 2003 and enrolled at Waterloo University to study mechanical engineer. Once he had his degree in his pocket he moved to North Carolina to work with Childress Racing and Kevin Harvick in 2007. He went to the Furniture Row Team left then returned in 2012 as crew chief and team leader.

The Furniture Row 78 team has suffered terribly with personal tragedies but yesterday they won the big prize. Well done Martin Truex and Cole Pearn. NASCAR Champions.:canada:

Yes ... and I like it even more as someone does not get an eighth championship.
That active driver can just stay in the stable with the two Winston Cup Nascar Legends.

Another bit of trivia about the Furniture Row NASCAR team. Cole Pearn is actually the second Canadian Crew Chief for that team.

Ryan Coniam from Burlington, Ontario was the Crew Chief for the team in 2010 with Rookie of Year Driver Regan Smith. Coniam was another one who grew up around the track as his father, Warren Coniam, was a very successful Supermodified racer who started racing at the old Canadian National Exhibition track in Toronto. Warren is a member of the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame. Ryan left NASCAR and still on occasion races an International Supermodified Association wing car. Another Canadian with a very strong mechanical background.

Warren Coniam top picture in the Bill Hite rear engine super and the 6 car of Doug Duncan. Ryan Coniam ran the 46 to victory at the Delaware ISMA race. Both very talented racers.

Yes after the year Martin had, he absolutely deserved the championship more than anyone. I've always been a Dale Sr, then Dale Jr fan, and it was pretty cool that when they asked Dale Jr what he was thinking on his final cool down lap as a regular driver, he said he was just thinking about how happy he was for Marten......Really cool, because rather than steal the moment, which the reporter was baiting him to do, he just shared how happy he was for his buddy Marten.......and the "high 5" car bumps from Junior were awesome. Best race of the year in my opinion.
