Good morning,

So I get an email from a buddy of mine in Calgary:

"Have you heard about the new Challenger Hellcat...........

700 hp. Amazing. Are you worried??"

And ya, I'd read about it being produced so I decided to look it up and came across a MotorTrend article comparing the Hellcat and the Camero ZL1.

2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 vs. 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The Hellcat produced 0-60 times of 3.7 sec and a 1/4 mile time of 11.7 sec.

I starting thinking that those are both VERY impressive numbers and yet strangly familiar...............

Then it suddenly dawned on me that those are the performance figures of a STOCK C6 Z06!!!!!! Way to go Dodge, coming out in 2015 with a vehicle that is as good as a Corvette was 9 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers,

Garry

Way to go Gary, that puts it in perspective! I'm going to use this logic on my friend who owns a SRT8 Challenger.
Thanks!

Not really a fair comparison. The zo6 is a sports car and weighs in at less than 3200 lbs.The challenger is a muscle car that weighs almost 4500lbs. Just sayin.

You're right Foxtrot. The Hellcat IS different. you can take the family along for the ride.:D

Well, even if the Hellcat is slow for the hp, I would still take one in a heartbeat. Why not. I think it's pretty neat....and so is the Camaro. I would take one of those too! However, it would be interesting to see what the quarter would be with some proper tires on the Hellcat.

As for the Hellcat challenging Garry's car?....that is a good chuckle.

Truth be told, 700 bhp in anything (even a tractor!) would be a whole lotta fun, be it Corvette, Camero, Challenger, Charger, heck even a Mustang!

As I look at this, why do so many of them start with the letter "C"??????? Even Mustang had a "Cobra" performance model!!!!!

Any ideas??!!

I'm sure if the Hellcat was faster than a Corvette they wouldn't be tossing out the sports/muscle car comparison!! But I did note that it was compared to an equivilant GM Camero rather than the upcoming C7 Z06 for example. Sort of cute when the "sports car" can blow away most other "sports cars" and ALL "muscle" cars!!!!

Cheers,

Garry

Don't think I made the comparison, 2015 Hellcat to Corvette's of 9 year's ago .Pretty cool though, that you can still buy a car new that make's 700hp. Heck I would even drive a mustang. Oh wait, I have one.

I'd be lying if I said that the dark side didn't even affect my family too. Mom (70 years old) wants me to look at a 2004 Mustang she wants to buy! The asking price seems good, 5K and as it is yellow too I;m sort of seeing the attraction. Unfortunately mom's Frontier suffered a pre cat failure that toasted the engine and that will be a 5 to 6K touch to get rolling again so she may have to wait this one out..............

I do agree though and wonder how long it will be before car hp starts to decrease. Common to find even sedans with 3 to 400 hp............who remembers when a car, sport or muscle, that had 200 hp was hot!

I remember my '82 Supra with 165HP, lucky to squeal the tires off the line, but great top end.... ! All the way to 220 if you had enough of a straight away..

New C7 hits 220 with 3 gears to go!

That is so funny! My NA 280 ZX with a few mods could hit 210 and my friends Supra Turbo (230 hp!!!!!!) we had up to 245 once.............uh in the US, not Canada and no YouTube videos either.........!!!

Man, back in "the day"!!

I hit 200 km/hr in a honda civic 4 door with 3 guys on the way to hockey once.... Most cars go fast... Some just take more time to get there
Lol

exactly. top end relies on rear gearing. my 75 trans am had a 2.73 ratio and the top end was unreal. my hot-rod 71 demon 340 had 3.90 gearing and had very limited top end, however,it was a little rocket sled for drag racing. my shark is geared at 3.08 which is just fine, when he gets his 406 small block, driveline stress won't be too bad in case of any "impromptu" launching.

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Runs 10.80 in the Quarter Mile! With Video - Hot Rod Magazine Blog

We were at the Woodward Dream Cruise last weekend in Detroit, Our hotel lot was filled with 2010 "Green with envy" Dodge Challengers.
Friday night a design engineer from Dodge showed up with a new Hellcat.
Very impressive four seater Hot Rod.
This guy was driving one of 8, long term test cars. He has the beast for one year to put as many miles on it as he can. Pretty cool job.
When he left he did a 200 foot burn-out.

We spoke with him for quite a while, lots of nice innovations on this car.
Would make a pretty cool DD.:canada:

707 hp, 10.8 quarter mile slips, 4500 lbs.Good time to be a car enthusiast, in the muscle car market.I can't wait to see what's next.

Our COPO Chevelle had a list price of $4436. That was a fair bit of money back then, but still within the range of many working men with a decent paying job. This new stuff certainly isn't in a price range that interests me. Then again, we are perfectly happy with what we have.
