Mid-Engine Corvette Rumor Looking Back

While I was at the dealership on Monday getting the first oil change in the C7 I was chatting with the salesman that helped with my order and he mentioned that in a couple of years I would be able to order a mid engine C8 Corvette ZR1 starting at $150,000.00 Cdn. Here go the rumors again.

With our cars, there is lots of room for luggage if you want to travel, and we do some of that. I was looking at an Audi R8 and it appears to be a day trip toy at best. Perhaps that is fine for lots of people but wouldn't work for us. The newer Corvettes have pretty close to a 50-50 fore-aft weight bias so there isn't a whole lot to be gained by going to a rear engine. We have a 2005 and the newer Corvettes have just gotten better since then. Unless GM comes out with a real prototype, I would just look at what I read as stories. Cheap advertising to get your attention.

I wouldn't be thrilled with a mid-engine Zora.....why isn't the Toyota MR-2 still around? This will take the North-American spirit out of the muscle supercar spirit........Having said that.....a rotary engine Corvette would tweak my interest! If we are going to a mid-engine vette....then they may as well introduce a 2+2 version...or better yet...a corvette SUV (but then again...they do have the Callaway Tahoe...) sigh.....

I don' think the MR2 is around anymore because the second generation car was fantastic, had some power and looked great. The next MR2 looked ok, but to make up for the looks, did Toyota up the power? Make it faster? Nope, they just offered a base motor with no power. Not a great way to attract people to a "Sport" car.

I love the Corvette and how it's been successful while remaining what it always has been. However, I would love to see a mid-engine Corvette. Just to see what Chev could do....
