Latest C8 2020 Production Resumption and 2021 Production Info

Here's the latest info, as of today (May 20/20) but it's NOT direct from GM but rather a "trusted GM dealer who's usually been accurate in the past", so take this for what it's worth:

-the May 21 date (tomorrow) GM previously announced for taking 2021 C8 orders, is off the table and no new date has been established;
-2020 C8 production will continue until the end of October 2020;
-2020 C8 convertible production will start July 13/20;
-the 2021 C8 production will start November 2/20.

It would be nice to get some accurate build dates for our cars. I am not convinced that the last issued dates will hold up. I tried yesterday to get a new TPW from Chevrolet Chat Line but they said simply no change try back later. haha.

Because GM has NO CLUE...
They have to have a clue. They way the system works for vehicle assembly is that all of the tier 1 and tier 2 sub assembly vendors get a 16 week framing schedule to which they run their own production. So like interior modules. seats, etc know 16 weeks out what was the weekly production plan. When they fire up there must be some level of starting where they left off. In the final month bucket, the line has to be fairly set. I am guessing there are some movements on issues around shortages. But I suspect much of the first 4 weeks of line assembly already had parts made and are in warehousing nearby for JIT delivery schedules. I guess we will just have to see what happens. My last TPW date was June 22nd.

I'm assuming, and perhaps naively, that once the Bowling Green plant reopens and gets into some sort of routine, then assuming COVID doesn't resurface and put a monkey-wrench into the process again, GM will be able to make some semi-accurate predictions after consulting with its parts-supply chain, then it'll let us know the TPW's and where it will cut off the 2020's and set a start date for taking 2021 orders and provide the 2021 pricing to its dealers. I know there are MANY unhappy people with all the months of speculation and waiting, but this problem isn't unique to GM since it's faced by every other vehicle manufacturer and almost ALL manufacturers in general, compliments of COVID-19. What is unique to GM is that it's engineered a great new Corvette redesign, its manufacturing process was already delayed by a UAW strike near the beginning, and it's advertising has for the most part lived up to all the reviews, so there's an enormous pent-up demand which has been amplified (for people like me...sigh) by others lucky enough to get their C8's before the supply tap was turned off. The primary culprit has been COVID-19 so to that extent, I'll cut GM some slack and keep waiting (not so) patiently for everything to unfold. I'm sure that GM wants to "get this show on the road" just as much as us.

And for those GM execs reading this, any time you want to send me an appreciative complimentary 2020 C8 convertible for trying to help your reputation, I'd take any colour or options at this point... :Woohoo:

Good info ABC.
I checked with the museum and I'm still at August 24th. This week was my build week before the virus. Pushing me back 3 months because of a 2 month delay seems a little inaccurate. I think the current TPW's become less accurate the farther away they are. As the plant ramps up I'm hoping my week will become mid July.

So far, GM's plant reopening has gone smoothly, according to this article:

But it's definitely slower. As well, this quote from the article shows us what will happen if GM's plants including Bowling Green, suffer the misfortune of having a worker with COVID:

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Company was forced to shut down its Dearborn truck plant on Wednesday afternoon after a worker there tested positive for COVID-19. Two employees also tested positive for COVID-19 at its Chicago Assembly plant in Tuesday, forcing the automaker to close that facility down, as well.

So let's hope that Bowling Green successfully screens out all workers with COVID once it reopens in a few days. But it's all part of a chain so if a plant supplying parts to Bowling Green gets shut down from a COVID worker, it will impact Bowling Green's output. Damn COVID! :Mad5:
