Greetings,

My wife and I have bought our first Vette and the project begins. It’s a 1976 red corvette. The previous owner was misinfomed about the vehicle being numbers matching and after digging I have discovered the engine numbers don’t match the VIN production number :-(. Onward we will go. I’m wondering if anyone can help me interpret the engine block numbers? I think I have some of them figured out but would appreciate any help. Here is what I have so far ..

  • Engine numbers
    • First number is “K1122C8Z”
“K” means St. Catherines, Ontario is the engine assembly plant,
“1122” means it was assembled on Nov 22nd,
“C8Z” is the Engine suffix code ?? I have found nothing on this .. help??
    • 1A1128390
I have nothing on this either

Any help or direction on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Welcome!

Don't see a C8Z in the list but here is where I looked when I was doing the same thing.

Scroll down to Suffix Portion of Chevy Engine Code and click the range you are looking for. I only see C8B, C8C, and C8X. They were from Impala's and Monte Carlo's

How clear is the Z in the code?

The 1A1128390 looks like the VIN code. Also show on that page how to decode.
