Hi folks, nice forum you have here!
I'm a new member from Ontario. Don't own C4 yet, but planning on buying one for this spring. Just missed one on kijiji today.
It will be a project, some sort of fixer upper. I'm absolute do-it-yourselfer. Had some frame ups behind my back over the years.
And also, I looked thru old threads and came across one about age... It made me feel better, I'm in a younger group here, I'm only 60:)

Listen old man welcome to the forum. Corvettes just make you feel younger!

Good luck with your search, lots out there but it sounds like you know enough on what is to be avoided.

Again welcome.

Hello Skvitt, yer just a kid, I've got you beat by 7 years (LOL). Welcome. It appears you are well informed anyway but heres a couple of comments. I wouldn't say things to avoid just some cautionary things.
As with any vette, the newer the better, mileage drives cost, the 84's were not fuel injected used an older throttle body,
the L98 motor received roller bearings in 1986 along with a gain in HP, the old Doug Nash 4+3 manual can be problematic, manual trans switched to a ZF 6 spd 89 to 96, listen for clunks or clutch slippage the dual mass flywheels are no longer available.
until 1989 the "Christmas Tree"(all digital) dash was used and its a bit gimmicky and can be problematic, in 1990 the dash was revised to analogue with digital speedometer, they can tend to run hot so pay attention to the space between the ac condenser and the rad, pay attention to the rad and cooling systems.
They need TLC, this forum is full of good info and so is the internet, there is no problem getting parts (except the dual mass flywheel as mentioned). When they run well, they are great and will give you that silly corvette grin that we all enjoy.

Good Luck.

Hey Skvitt:

I just traded in a 1998 C5 Convertible at Ontario Motor Sales in Oshawa with only 58,000km on the dial...brand new X drilled rotors front & back with new pads, Corsa Cat-Back, K&N Filter...new coolant etc. etc. New LED's all round. Does not burn any oil and gets 33mpg on the Hwy. Great car...Call Sam Bianca at 905 903 8443 If they have it, you can't go wrong.

Thank you, but I'm looking for C4 fixer-upper.
If you have not yet done so, reach out with questions to @VikingTrad3r ...
I cruise with him a few times each year and I know he knows the C4 inside and out.
He is a c4 fixer-up'r-er too

... you've likely checked out the effort of his latest acquisition ...

You've likely seen this one and I know it's far away for you in Calgary, but it's a 1994 C4 convertible with 102,000km and perhaps (?) its condition is too good for your purposes? But if the owner is truly "as old as dirt" he may let it go for a price that makes it worthwhile for you to consider and perhaps there's something wrong with it:

Or here's an older one (1990 coupe) with a lot more km on it and it's closer to home for you:

Then there's this 1986 in TO which you've likely seen but it's in "mint condition" so likely not of interest:

And finally here's one that's in my home town (Edmonton): a 1991 convertible with 117K on it but again, it looks to be in great shape. However if you're interested in it, I could check it out for you since it's in my backyard. It looks to be owned by a dealer of sorts so you'd be stuck paying gst as well:

I'm surprised there's so few C4's around. You've got your work cut out for you finding "the" one. My neighbour belongs to the local corvette club. I'll ask him to check around with club members for what you're looking for. If you don't hear back, that means I struck out. Good luck with your search!

OK, thank you guys for all your support. I think I just officially joined the club. The deal on kijiji that I thought was gone, came back. The guy contacted me and it was still available.
So I've got this sweet ride for $2K. Picking it up this week. Will start restoration thread once it in my garage. It is '85.

Wow.... Looks pretty nice for $2k.... Good job. Keep us in the loop...

Welcome Skvitt! And congratulations on your purchase! I've got an '85 also, so feel free to bounce any questions you might have off of me. First word of advice, clean up and properly grease your hood latches on both sides, so they don't bind up, and stretch and break your hood release cables. Also make sure all your ground contacts are clean, this will eliminate all the wonky electrical problems, and lubricate all the moving pivot points on the headlight system. Have fun!

Welcome to the forum, and hope you find your project. Great choice by the way for a C4 😁

Thnx for the plug

Skvitt I see you have yourself a quite rare 85 indeed. If I had the opportunity to pick that car up i would have paid far more than 2k. In Canada (and the usa) very few Light Blue Metallic have escaped a repaint to a more “modern colour” ahem like Red. Or Black. haha. So you have a great original paint colour there.

Guessing the interior is a mess. And the engine bay likely extremely crusty. And if not, you really really stole that car. 👍

as noted above I am an absolute c4 fanatic and look fwd to seeing progress on your car.

My second c4 was a red 85 z51 auto from Thunder Bay ON and driven back to yyc across the prairies years ago. Long since sold but the 85 is a unique C4 in many ways. None of them bad 👍

You are perhaps going to need some help and if so dont be shy to reach out. Happy to assist in any way.

Would you be able to open the driver side rear storage compartment and post a picture of the RPO sticker? That little sticker shows the original options that the car was made with.

Cheers! VT in Calgary.

That sticker is missing. I wonder if it is possible to obtain a replacement.
Interior is a bit worn out, a few mice nests, but overall cleanable and should be good for this summer. Engine bay looks good too. Motor runs, won't start without starting fluid though when cold. I've started a restoration thread too.
