Hi guys I am a new member of the forum and am in the market for a C7 coupe 2LT or possibly a 3LT.
One question I have is should I get the Z51 package? In researching the subject I am hearing that the Z51 will make the ride rather harsh for extended trips. I am wondering though even with the Z51 will the ride be acceptable if it is in touring or Eco Mode? The majority of my use will be for touring on extended trips.
I am now north of 60 and would love to have the 7 speed standard but I am wondering if I would still enjoy it as much say in 10 years? I am thinking that the 6 speed auto is not the ideal trans for this car but if I could get the 8 speed auto in the C7 that's the way I would go. That probably won't happen for several years though.
I am presently wintering in Arizona and have found a couple of cars at a dealership in Phoenix that I am going to look at next week which might answer some of my questions.
In the mean time I would be interested in any advise anyone can give me.
Thanks
Al

Well I'm well North of 60 and I still prefer manual transmission .Z51 does nothing for me as I do mainly cruising and zero track or high performance driving .2lt package gives me all the options I need .

Now there was a recent thread that indicated an advantage to buy Canadian because of the exchange rate .

And last if you choose Midnight Racing blue I'm coming to live with ya :D

Best Wishes

Welcome Al glad to have you along.

I've heard too that the Z51 makes the ride a little harsh. Being retired I would probably not opt for it, wanting more comfort on longer drivs.

A test drive of both would answer that for you.

With the 8 speed auto coming for the '15 Z06 -- I'd expect its availability on the '15 StingRay. -- and if auto is your thing (it is mine) I'd definitely wait for it.
I"ve got the 6 speed auto on my GS and love it but I'd love the 8 speed that much more.

As Elf (Steve) says right now is a good time to buy Canadian tho -- b4 the price is adjusted to reflect our tanking $. -- so it would make more sense to buy now despite the probability of the 8 speed. No guarantees of GM offering it on the '15 StingRay.

Let us know what you think of the C7 and the Z51 when you do get to a test drive.

Enjoy the warmth in Az.....It's cold back here unless you live on the west coast.

Welcome Al!

I've heard the base suspension without the Z51 does offer a great ride and not harsh at all, however if you opt for the Z51 package with the magnetic ride suspension, I've heard it is not harsh and actually feels great. Having not gotten to drive my car yet, I cannot say from personal experience however.

And as for the auto, I've been hearing it won't come out until the 2016 model and will not be available for the 2015 base. Just what I've seen on the forums, and no 100% confirmation.

Thanks Blue_Bomber -- I'll be watching with much interest on that option.

I've not heard anything at all after the Z06 introduction with it.

Cheers,
Colin.

This, I believe, is true. I have a Z51 and MRC. The magnetic ride was important to me to maintain the comfort when I want and the firmness when I want. I also don't have the car yet (5 more days) but I believe from all reports the MRC suspension makes the Z51 as comfortable as the base car without Z51 when it is in touring mode.

For me, I went Z51 because I track my cars regularly. However, I would have opted for Z51 for the wheels and brakes alone even if I didn't. However, that's a personal choice... no "right" choice on that.

I'm waiting to see just how firm the Z51 is. I initially got the impression from early write-ups that it's too hard for my taste.....but we'll see.
Hoping to get a test drive in one of these babies some time.

Waiting to hear what you guys think on your new StingRays.

Holy Moly! You must not be able to sleep!!!! :D

From all the things that I have read, the Z51 package is an outstanding deal. However, to take the most advantage of the Z51, I believe the MRC suspension is almost a must have as echoed above and I bet it will help with resale if that day ever comes. In it's softest mode, I would take this with a grain of salt, but people say it rides like a Cadillac and is firm and tight in track mode.

Our '05 has the standard suspension. Even at that, on choppy roads, it can get annoying. Ours does have the 1SB package which pretty well takes in all the convenience options like heated, his hers memory seats, memory mirrors, six CD Bose stereo, telescoping wheel, memory radio settings, garage door opener, HUD and a bunch of other stuff. If you are going to be tracking the car, then you will want the hardware for that such as Z51. The choice is yours.

from someone that gets to drive both i would recommend the Z51 its a great deal and the ride is very comfortable the magnetic ride control makes a world of difference and if you need help finding the car you are looking for let me know

I ordered a Z51 without the mag ride lol, so I'll let you guys know how that goes later this spring.

I don't track the car, but I wanted the Z51 for the black-wheel option and the carbon flash mirror and spoiler option. However, just for those two options I didn't want to shell out the extra $5660 combined for Z51 and mag, so I took my chances with just ordering the $3775 Z51.

I did read some online reviews about the ride quality of the Z51 without msrc and they seemed to be mixed, a few said the ride was harsh but another few said it was perfectly fine lol.
