Question HVAC vacuum Test

I currently have the intake off so I could check the vacuum line that sits behind the intake. It looks OK, but before I put the intake back on I want to make sure the line doesn't leak. Is there a way I can test that line without having to have the engine running? Also the angled boot at slides on & off fairly easily. Is that normal?

Hook up a vacuum hand pump with a gauge on 1 end, hold your finger over the other end and pull a vacuum.

Stop pumping and watch the gauge for a minute or two. If the gauge reads steady line is good, if vacuum drops replace line.

ahhhhh.... technology these days... way back when we would start the engine, take a propane torch, open the valve (no flame) and trace the vacuum line with the propane and listen to the idle. Nothing fancy but it worked just fine.

Thanks guys. The problem I had is that I couldn't see if the line behind the intake was intact. So I had to take it apart. So now of course I can't run my engine to do all those DIY tests. Smoke, propane or some kind of starter fluid and or wd40 etc. So now I have to find a cheap hand held vacuum pump. Any ideas?
