Well, after only 4 days of owning my dream car, I was taking my wife to her hair salon and looked down at my display to find my check engine light was on. I didn’t notice any drivability issues, but still, I kept wondering WTF is going on already. So I dropped my wife off at her salon and promptly went to the dealership where I bought the car. My salesman noticed I pulled up and he came out to greet me. After telling him why I was there, he escorted me over to the service bay where the lady behind the counter told me there were no techs working today (Saturday) that could read the code for the error. She suggested that I enable my free trial of On Star, and they could tell me the error code associated with this issue, so I did just that. They said it was code P0455, so I passed that code along to the service lady. She checked what that code meant and said it could be as simple as a loose gas cap, among other things. Well, as we know, I don’t have a gas cap, so not likely that. She did say it appears to be nothing serious, and that it is safe to continue driving it, but it will need to come in for assessment. I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon.
I have been monitoring my blood pressure the last few months as per my doctors advice, which had been good since he put me on a low dose blood pressure medicine, but I tell you, I just knew it was high yesterday, so I check and guess what.....I was correct. It was higher than it had been in a long time. Sheesh, this issue, although seemingly minor, stressed me out.
I shall update when I learn what occurred.
Thanks for reading the rant.
Dale.

Not that it makes the situation better but you can purchase a code reader for under $100 that will tell you what the codes are. You can also go on the web where there is all sorts of information about the codes and whether it is serious or not. Ask me how I know.

Hi and for what this is worth ….

I had my engine trouble indicator (2019 Z51) come ON once, last fall, right after I filled my gas tank. Now I NEVER add more fuel after the gas nozzle stops....

Other than that blip, zero issues in one year, ~ 6000 kilometers...

I hope your issue is as minor as mine.

:Cheers2:

Dale I have found the service department at SP Chev quite good. The sales side... well different story.
They have some good techs there for corvette.
Likely nothing serious and you should be covered with that warranty. 👍

Thanks for that, it was good to hear. My appointment is for this afternoon, so I will update you all afterward.
I really wasn’t too concerned about having to get it repaired, it was more the timing, having had it for only 4 days. I wondered if it is a finicky car that will have issues constantly?
My wife had a VW Jetta several years ago and once warranty expired, that check engine light came on so many times, each time costing a $700+ repair, it caused us to get rid of it. I really hope this is all in my head, and not a sign of things to come.

Pretty sure your appointment will not be a dis-appointment.
Keep us in the loop.

Ya I understand your concern and hope this is a one of experience for you.
I am also interested in your experience with the service department there at SP.

Hope all works out well for you and you get back to enjoying your Corvette.

Hey Dale:

Believe it or not, your service writer is correct - to a point and probably by accident rather than actual knowledge. CEL code P0455 is an indication of a possible leak in the vapor recovery system. Even though the C7 has a "capless" filler system it's possible that the seal on the cap, or any other component in the sealed system, may be leaking. However, this CEL is most often caused by over-filling the tanks which causes excessive pressure in the evaporator tank. Best to fill the tanks until the nozzle shuts off and leave it at that.

My guess is that they will find nothing serious, the code will be deleted and you'll be on your way. As stated previously, an inexpensive code reader can come in very handy for this type of problem.

Best regards
Ross

That evap code is a....problem.....on most modern cars. Even my mother's Nissan has had it at one time and it was a simple fix. It's usually a loose cap/seal or fuel in the evap return line from topping off the fuel tank. After that, it's most often a line or valve gone south somewhere in the system. It's always (in my experience) a simple fix.

I get the frustration with something going "wrong" on a car you've owned for 4 days, but (speaking as someone else with BP issues) you almost have to not give a s**t about it. I know that's easier said than done (from personal experience) but allowing it to bother you is not helping it and only hurting you.

I struggle with BP issues as well and am on several meds for it. As I mentioned, I know it's hard, but you just have to let it go. My temper and work injuries (seen and done too much that I'd rather not have memories of) would probably get the best of me too in your situ, but you really need to find a way to just walk away when something stresses you out.

If it's saying to yourself "It's just a car" or "it's just money" or if you go for a long walk or even beat the crap out of a punching bag, you gotta get that stress out of your head/body.

I lost two uncles to organ failure related to high BP and my old man struggled with it until he passed (Alzheimer's, not BP). Medication, meditation, mindfulness, exercise, ti-chi....what-the-heck-ever works. Find something that gets you out of your head when it seems like the world is out to get you. The world is not out to get us, it actually could care less about us. Things happen in the world and then it just moves on to the next thing, regardless of it's effects on us personally. It's our perception of events that gets us in the end. You have control of that, even if it feels like you don't right now. You've probably heard all this from your doc already though.....

Good luck and here's hoping the evap code is just something stupid like a seal or some liquid fuel that found it;s way into the wrong line.

by no means am i a mechanic, but its possible they filled the tank with a lower octane and THAT set off the code. not surprised in this era of tight margins and dealers trying to reduce their costs

I was wondering about that exact same thing. They said it was filled with premium when I picked it up, but you never know.

Thanks for your words of wisdom and encouragement. I do appreciate it!
I really do try to not focus on negativity, and brush off the small stuff, but I think part of the issue is that I have built up the Corvette in my brain for decades, so I really looked at it as an an almost unobtainable dream. Now that I actually own one now, it was a really big mind trip. Oh well, I am off to my appointment now. I shall keep you all informed.
Dale.

Ok, here is my update. I brought her in for my 1:00 appointment and decided to wait. A couple of hours later, the tech came out to talk to me, explaining the code and the possible causes, however, he was unable to replicate the problem. They used a pressure test 25 different times, and no problem. He then said I can either take it home and see if the problem comes back, or leave it over night outside so it gets cold and they will check it in the morning. Apparently it is more likely to show up when it is cold. I asked if it was his car, what would he do. He said he would take it and enjoy it as much as possible for what is left of the driving season. I decided to leave it there and have it checked in the morning, so we shall see what they come up with, since I likely wouldn’t have the opportunity to drive it before the weekend anyway.
I shall update tomorrow.
Dale.

I received a letter from GM advising that "some 2017 Corvettes may have a potential leak at the top of the left fuel tank fuel pump that may cause a fuel odor or leak". Not sure if this would also apply to a 2015 but you should have them check to see if there was anything similar on your car.

Mine does not have any problem but the letter did say they will cover it for 10 years if it does become an issue in the future.

Wow ... was this a recent letter you received as I have no such news of this at the moment. Onstar and Gas Buddy are weak of it too ... thanks for this info on the 2017. 🤔
.... now back to our regularly scheduled program ... 😁

Not new - the letter was dated May of 2018. Special Coverage Program #17469. Might be Convertible only or early build cars. Mine was built in late August or early September of 2016 and I took delivery in early October 2016. I'm not worried about it but do keep a nostril peeled for gas odor.
