I'm asking for a buddy.
I was hoping someone may be able to help me with my 05.

I'm having starting issues when the car sits in the sun. The car powers up but will not engage the starter until I disconnect the power / pull the starter relay.

I have been searching online to no avail and thought that you may have a member with some knowledge on this particular year of car and issues.

You have an 05, with a manual transmission I assume. It sounds to me that the issue may be the steering wheel column lock module is starting to fail.
Are you getting any alarms on the DIC when you go to start the car? Some owners with the column lock issues do not get any message however.
By disconnecting the battery, that reset the column lock solenoid circuit temporarily, and allows it to start.
Prior to GM coming up with the fix in 2018, owners used to buy a column lock eliminator/bypass which would fix the issue, but some of these eliminators would fail as well.
GM has a TSB on this issue. Attached.

Agree with @Area Z51. I had the same problem of when the sun shone on the steering column and heated it up the car wouldn't start. I'd get the column lock screen though. Cool the steering wheel and it would start. I went behind the dash and checked the column lock, it worked flawlessly. Took in to Western Corvettes in Caglary and the fix was to reprogram the ECU and remove the column locking piece. No worries now. Good luck but get it in before it leaves you stranded!
