Gentlemen,

I was thinking about this back when I first got the car but a friend with some autobody experience recommended against it. He said that it would turn from clear to yellow over time and that it would eventually start to lift and peel at the edges.

So I was wondering if anyone here has used 3M or any similar paint protection product and what has been your experience with it.

So far the car has withstood the rigors of Northern Alberta (that my eyes can see, eh Colin!) but the side mirrors do have some "peppering" chips.

So I was wondering if I should consider something like this before it might get chipped more.

Cheers,

Garry

Garry , I gota call BS ............well sort of .

The first stuff that came out many years ago was not so great .

However todays 3M is a great product that stands up well and does not yellow .

We have our own professional installer at the shop , and he done quite a few of our Corvette's . I'm some will tune in and give their report .

I've had it on the front of my C5 for 2 seasons, no issues, has it installed when I got my new hood painted and front end flashed in, didn't want any more stone chips.....works great, wouldnt be without it, like Manny says - get the 3M product.....

Has anyone tried the protective film for the headlight lenses?

I have it on mine Garry. Come check it out if you're ever around. I recommend it--our roads just have too many rocks on them.

I also have had this on my Avalanche since 2008--no yellow tint, had a few large rocks hit the stuff, anb it looks a little whethered, but it's as easy to take off as it is on.

Do it Garry--at Manny's or elsewhere. Make sure you have an installer that's good--it's critical with this application.

On my C6 I did rockers, mirrors, grille area, 24 inches up the hood, and up the front quarters to the same place.

This stuff looks most noticeable on black cars--take a look at my pics--can only see it by looking VERY CLOSELY at it. I don't think you can even tell in my photos on here.

Good luck, and hope my endorsement makes you take the plunge. PM me if you have more questions--I never claim to be an expert at cars, but I feel very strongly about doing thid to save your car.

I have the older film on my car. It never laid down that nicely looking orage-peeled and was a sore spot with me. Manny took care of replacing with the updated product on the front nose this past summer. It is a dramatic improvement to the original and I would highly recommend it.

Thanks guys! Now just need to get some prices and find some $..........! And decide if I need to get the chips fixed and how much that might cost too!

Cheers,

Garry
