We did a similar trip a couple years ago. Spent 4 days at the Inverary Resort in Baddeck (nice spot). From there we spent one day on the Cabot Trail, one day up around Louisbourg, one day exploring around Baddeck and then a day hitting some other places near by that we wanted to see. Four days wasn't enough time to explore Cape Breton. When you go do the trail, the roads leading to the trail were pretty rough when we went. So if it hasn't been fixed you will hit a stretch of about 10 or 15 KM that is really slow and lots of holes to dodge. After that the road is excellent.
