2015 Z06
So here is the deal. We have from next Friday at 5pm until the following weeks Monday (8 Days) and we want to take the Z06 for its summer run. Cabot Trail is a must and we are learning much too late that early reservations might have been a thought. The wife also wants to consider hitting PEI and maybe even Nfld to say the car has been in every Province.

We figure that we would be driving 2 days to get to PEI and/or Cape Breton for a stay Sunday night, this trip through the States and some great sites and enthusiast routes. We are consider a two day or three stay there and then carrying on.

Thoughts? ideas? Must sees? Things to be wary of?

To be quite honest that is not much time for touring the East coast. You could spend that time just doing PEI alone or any one of the other Atlantic provinces. There is so much to see in each province from the tidal bore on the St John river, The tides in the Bay of Fundy, Cavendish Beach (?) and the other beaches in PEI, the bridge across to PEI, The Cabot Trail, Fortress Louisbourg, The Wreakhouse region in Newfoundland, the Humber river valley, Gros Morne, the table Lands in Newfoundland and so much more. If you want to add the West coast of the Newfoundland to your itinerary then it would be at least 2 days minimum just to get up to Corner Brook and back to the ferry. And that would be cutting it very close with not much time to look around. Even with the time you have, you are going to have a great trip and I know we will all be looking forward to the pics and the blog entries.

Les, we will be a couple of days behind you, we are leaving on the 28th. Plan is to stay in Quebec City the first night then head east. Cabot Trail is a must and we want to wander some of the small harbours of NS. If there is time we will go to PEI as well. NFLD was originally the destination but time and $ sadly eliminated that. We have to be home on the 8th no matter what.

We are taking the F 150 because I cannot safely carry enough oxygen in the Corvette. I will keep and eye out for you and Karen, I will PM you with our cell # maybe we can meet up for a seafood dinner somewhere, I think they have seafood down there don't they!

Have a great trip.

PEI maybe in 8 days from Ontario and back... no more unless you just want to drive in/drive out and see relatively nothing... If all you want is a run to say your car has been in every province then go nuts, but you won't be really seeing the provinces or the amazing history, scenery, and people of the Maritimes. You can spend a week driving in each of the Maritime provinces and still only rush through some of the highlights....

my opinion.....

It's hard to recommend Les as we all have different tastes. Being from Nova Scotia, I'm trying to imagine what I would take 4 days to do if I'd never been there. I would definitely recommend doing your own research but if It were me and I wanted to see some country, I would do 2 days on the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. There's lots to do and see. Fort Louisburg, Alexander Graham Bell Museum (Baddeck), Whale watching, Highlands National Park, etc....
Then I would drive and spend a day in Halifax. Walk the Historic Properties Waterfront, tour the Alexander Keith's Brewery, the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic....... then cut loose the fourth day for Peggy's Cove, Chester Basin, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg....... take the old road... the scenery is gorgeous... and the architecture is like a trip back in time.... then either another 2 1/2 hours to Yarmouth and take the Ferry to Maine (5 1/2 hours or so and head home from the US, or drive cross country back to New Brunswick from Lunenburg.. (about 3 1/2 hours to Moncton).... Whatever you end up doing, have a great trip. Watch out for potholes....

Eric, thanks for the input on what to see and do in NS. Gives us some ideas as well. We have not been on a "sight seeing" trip to the East Coast since the early 70's (not 1870:Biggrin:). We are really looking forward to going and it would be neat to cross paths with Les as well.

Ideally it would have been nice to have had two weeks or longer, just did not work this year. Grandkids and dogs. Who needs them. Well I guess I do!

Thanks Murray... I hoped this helps you both... or at least gives you some names to Google and check out before you go.... If you're going to Cabot Trail, this is probably the best time of year and most of the foggy season is over... or so you can hope.... When the fog is thick, the wow factor beauty of the Cabot Trail basically disappears....

We did a similar trip a couple years ago. Spent 4 days at the Inverary Resort in Baddeck (nice spot). From there we spent one day on the Cabot Trail, one day up around Louisbourg, one day exploring around Baddeck and then a day hitting some other places near by that we wanted to see. Four days wasn't enough time to explore Cape Breton. When you go do the trail, the roads leading to the trail were pretty rough when we went. So if it hasn't been fixed you will hit a stretch of about 10 or 15 KM that is really slow and lots of holes to dodge. After that the road is excellent.

Eric

Having done it via motorcycle several times, Z51 twice and having come from NS many years ago I think Eric has hit the nail on the head perfectly. Driving down via Canadian route is faster but not very interesting. One option we liked was driving on to PEI via the bridge and getting off via the ferry. Taking the ferry from Yarmouth to the US is a bit pricey but a neat experience and some of the ride back through the US is amazing but it is a lot slower progress. All in all a great trip.
