That does make sense Bob as the roaming can be pricey if you do not get the right plan. I am using my Telus here and roaming is a set rate daily for a maximum of 15 days. I have a data cap but an unlimited offer with a free new phone waiting for me when I get back home eventually. This is far less expensive over a year than the wifi data I bought for the car. I believe GM offers ATT data packages for the car wifi networks and wow...pricey with a time limit or you lose the data.

Also you can pull data from your phone with bluetooth. (music and audiobooks for example. Not sure about NAV) Things like SIRI and maps don't seem to work unless you are plugged in with "CarPlay"

I agree with Nik above that possibly Android may work better on the GM systems as CarPlay with Apple IOS is supposed to put your phone entirely onto the car's system, however, it is sketchy sometime for sure. When it works it works great. The voice commands are really convenient and the Maps app is way better than the NAV in the car.

Ziggy may have the best solution as I am not sure on the upgrade costs on either his or the factory system. I have seen Ziggys going in but have not seen it in action yet. Looking forward to that day.

This turned out to be a great thread.  Interesting topic.
