I was back at ICAR this past Monday running laps with windows closed and the AC on ( I know, dumb - outside temp was ~30C ). After ~ 5 laps, I felt something strange with the wheel - it felt heavier, and I could really feel the road. Looking down at the dash, I see that my oil temp is just under the red line, and the warning:

"Power steering disabled. Please drive carefully"

After a cool down lap the power steering came back. I had the windows down and heat on for later runs, and oil temp was fine ( middle of the gauge) for the rest of the evening. So two questions:

1 - Does this happen because the power steering fluid got to hot ? There was no warning to that effect
2 - Is there a way to disable power steering legitimately. I really liked the feedback I got from the wheel on the track.

Wow that seems odd becasue when we ran at Spring Mountain July 6th & 7th, temps were high 90's and we told "windows up" "AC on" "vented seats on" and we were out for for about 20 to 22 minutes at a time no issues with any cars for the 2 days there that our class was aware of. I was driving a Z07 and harder then most of the other guys there.
Only time windows were down was once we parked the cars.

I would consider taking it in to the dealer. Looks like you overheated and it started shutting down.

I also gather that the c7 steering is pure electric vs electric assisted hydraulic in which case there should not be any 'fluid' to maintain or overheat. The motor of course can overheat.

Ps. There's nothing wrong with ac on and windows up :) car should be able to handle it just fine.

Hope you can get this sorted out. It will be interesting, if you take it back to the dealer, to see if any damage was done.

See what you get for driving too fast!! Hope you had a good time.

I was with Wayne 81 driving a M7 Z51 no problems.

What mode did you have your selector in? (Tour,Sport,Track) we were diving at Ron Fellows all the time in Track.
