Hi
I’m new to this forum. I was hoping if I can get some help. I have a 77 corvette and just bought wheels for it. Rear 275 40 20. Front 245 40 18. When I put them on the car the front is sitting high in the back is sitting high also. I’m looking to lower the car by 2 inches in the front in the same in the back. For the front my intentions are to buy a kit from Corvette Depot which is Adjustable coil overs. My question is for the back should I buy 8 inch bolts and go that route or spend the money and go for a full independent suspension coil overs in the back also. If I were to go with just the 8 inch bolts do I need to replace the existing shocks in the back?

Hi Tony. Welcome to the forum. I'm not a C3 expert but we have lots here that will be able to help... @turbozig comes to mind right away as he built his gorgeous C3 from the ground up.

Sure thing.

Hello Tony. I had severe height issues with my 70 after my full restoration. Everything was rebuilt using fully stock components. unfortunately my rear was 2-3" too high. The 8" bolts didn't do the trick. I had to go with 10" bolts for a C4 which lowered it to nice stock or slightly lower stance. The only item that is not stock was the adjustable strut rods which make rear wheel alignment easier. As for the fronts I have no experience lowering that portion. I believe there will be serious control arm modifications or tubular replacement required, unless a new lowered spindle assembly can be purchased.

Here are the pictures of it lowered now, and my at home DIY wheel alignment with the factory 15x8" rally wheels and the optional 17" torq thrust mags I have. I went back to the rally rims for a while, and ride is much nicer with the 15's. I have also included a shot of the height before lowering. Lol. This would have been awesome for the jacked up 70's and 80's, not my style however and rode like a chuckwagon. All good now and pleased with the results

Welcome Tony.. nice ride.
I’m curious of your tire size and diameters.
I’m running 255/45-ZR17s, approx 25” in diameter.
I have approx 2” or less from top of tire to fender lip front/rear.
My car sits low on F41 front coils and F41 steel rear spring.

After trying a bunch of custom mods I ended up with Ridetech Coil-overs. When I first tried the long bolts they bent. Then I built super strong bolts and it was nice but I wanted more. Now in the rear I have 325# and 375# springs which I can swap out in 20 minutes and adjustable coil-overs which I can make harder or softer in 2 minutes and taller or shorter in 10 minutes. I like the firmer springs for autocross or when the hard top is on.
