Any XBox Live gamers on here?

So I went out and bought myself an XBox One Elite that was on sale at BestBuy. Also bought Forza6, Halo5, GTA V, Rainbow Six, Assasins Creed and Star Wars Battlefront.

Anyone on here have these plus a subscription to XBox Live or any other games they play online?

My XBox Live GamerID is Zeeman28a.

I used to be a PC Gamer back in the 80's and 90s. Played the original Need for Speed and Test Drive games, not to mention all the other 1st person shooters like Doom, Wolfenstein and Nuke Dukem. And I really would like to see updates to games like Space Quest, King's Quest and Leisure Suit Larry. Maybe I'm just used to playing with a keyboard but playing with those controllers is hard to control the cars, and it hurts my hands if I hold them for too long. Thinking about getting the TX Racing Wheel from Thrustmaster and building a rig for it for the Forza game and the other driving sims I have.

I'm starting to get back into the gaming scene after a 20 year absence. and I'm a little surprised there isn't much in the way of multi-platform online play for these games. I mean Forza is Forza no matter what platform you play on. Same goes for the other games that run on different platforms like Halo, Rainbow Six, and Assasins Creed, etc.

Sony, Microsoft, EA and others should get together and offer a cross platform online gaming experience like no other.

Stan.

It will take a while to get used to the console hand controllers... after a while you will never want to go back to keyboard control.

Forza is X-Box exclusive BTW.

I have an X-Box One but not a Live Gold subscriber YET.

You can still "friend" me though. I go under Deedo Hall .
I'll go and try to "friend" you right now.

I remember those days and Sierra games Stan. I was actually one of the first guys to organize the very first Doom multiplayer roster back in the day when you used to have to dial the person you wanted to play with with yer dial-up modem. Ah, fun times. Met hundreds of people. Ended up designing some levels for those games and worked briefly with some of the companies involved.

Yes you can go ahead and vote on the Winter Camp thread for a Forza official CCF roster if you're interested in taking part. I don't play a huge amount but will look for you on xbox live. Likely under my son's handle.

Hey Nik.

I still get nostalgic about those old modem days. There are times when I miss hearing the old errrr-wheee noises. Doom wasn't the only one that had that multiplayer option. I used to do that with my Need for Speed games. Plus I used to SYSOP a few BBS's back in the day. Does anyone remember how to code with ANSI anymore? Looking back, I'm glad I was around during those times. Kids these days have it too easy and boy do they give me strange looks when I try to explain what a modem is/was.

Wooo! Memory Flashback! I put a DOS emulator on my laptop so I could play Wolfenstein. What a great game, and Doom? Dang scary back in the day, playing in a dark room......

I really enjoy Forza but haven't jumped to going online yet and only have a 360 to play on using the Xbox steering wheel.

What an interesting subject for this forum!

My gaming experience firstly goes pre-computer to board wargaming. Then in 1980 dad bought me an Atari 2600 I think it was when h e had to go to the US for a job and I seeded the last field when I was 15. I used that for about three years solid and even recall taking it with me to university to use in the residence where I was staying. Then fast-forward to oh say the late 1980's when IMB 286 computers were out. How many of you remember a gaming company called SSI?

So my first games were things like Wasteland, D & D, the Ultima series and I really enjoyed Fallout. I never got another gaming console after the Atari though I was sort of aware of the cahnges that were taking place. So now I've a son and when he was 10 years old (last November) I starting to think about gaming consoles. My thoughts were that as he had one at his mom's place he didn't need one here with me and I didn't need him becoming a junkie. But I wavered a bit on this and so I went to him with a proposal. If he paid for 1/2 of it his Grandmother would pay for the other 1/2 as his 10th birthday present. He wanted an XBox One. But the console had to be kept at his grandparents place, not at my place. And in order to be able to play on it we had a rule of 1 minute of XBox One time he had to do 1 minute of reading or 1 minute of school work. I gave him a clipboard and on it he recorded his time that he read/studied and the amount of time he played for. This absolved me of the hassle of my son coming to me to ask me if he could play his XBox One or not. If he had the time banked he could, otherwise no. This put my son in charge! Plus I also hoped that it would give him more time around his grandparents too.

Anyway.............he started with Forza, Minecraft and then Halo:The Master Chief Collection.

I actually enjoyed Halo. I even bought a second controller as this game can be played by up to 4 people in the same room. We had fun.

Then Assassin's Creed, two versions of that game and that was not too bad.

But I dislike XBox Live - it seems a cash grab to me. So far I have not let my son play one line against others. Just not something I'm comfortable with.

Now he is playing Destiny The Taken King and also Halo 5. I like Halo 5 better myself. At least a bit of a story line and not just kill all the baddies like Destiny is! I just wish we could play together on Halo 5 in person. After all it is you and your three member team, why not let another player play one of those players?? Oh ya! Because if you could multiplayer play in person you wouldn't need to have a subscription to XBox Live!!!!! Silly me..........

But whose to say, maybe when he gets older?? And with his own money too!!

Me? I stick to playing Steel Panthers on my PC. I did pay $10 for a copy of Fallout 3 for the PC that my son has been playing in the basement - he can play from 7:10 to 7:45 on weekend mornings. Odd how he struggles to get out of bed on weekend days at 7:10 but weekends he literally flies out of bed, dressed, in the basement in seconds flat!!!!!!

For Christmas Assassin's Creed Syndicate has been ordered and I'm thinking about Fallout 4 too. I like him to finish one or two games at a time rather than having a slew to play...........

Cheers,

Garry
