CCF Members,
We will be undergoing a core forum platform upgrade and a small feature and bug release in the next few days. Notices will be put up during outages.
Some new features you can expect with this release:
1. (Optional) Thread tagging - ability to uniquely 'tag' threads with searchable keywords - i.e. you can add keywords like 'oil' to a thread and it will show up in separately searchable view for users (makes searching easier). This feature is of course optional, you may elect not to tag threads at all.
2. (Optional) For those of you concerned about security we have two-step verification, also known as two-factor authentication or 2FA, requires you to provide two pieces of information to login. The general form is expressed as "something you know and something you have". "Something you know" is your password. "Something you have" is the new part. You may have seen this with other services, such as Google accounts. If you're familiar with that, you'll understand how it works.
Two-step verification is something a user has to opt into sometime after they have registered. Enabling it increases security at the expense of a more complex login procedure. For many users--particularly ones that just lurk or only have a few posts--the "value" of their account is low so the cost may outweigh the benefit. However, for privileged users, the extra security should be worthwhile.
3. Ability to like profile post comments
4. Link title conversion - when you embed links to other sites we will attempt to grab the title of the link and insert it (makes the link more readable)
5. Media Tagging - Media gallery items can be tagged same as threads
6. Video uploads - big feature, we will start support for uploading videos directly into the media gallery vs. linking to youtube/vimeo only. There will be some size and format restrictions but should make uploading a CCF video a simpler process. You will still be able to insert videos from youtube/vimeo of course. This is just a bonus.
7. Added media filters - you will be able to filter media by media type and categories better i.e. videos, images etc
8. Various bug fixes including some new post bugs scrolling to latter posts on occasion and other UX issues
9. Forum merges, we will be merging a few quiet forums into busier forums in order to make things cleaner looking.
So all of the above coming up shortly.
Thanks for reading.
