I've always backed into parking spots.  On our car you can see where previous owners have run up onto curbs causing some curb rash.  Backing in, with that short rear end, I am usually 2-3 feet away from curbs.  I find it much easier when I screw up.  I need only look in the mirror to yell at the guy.  He does get a calling down from time to time.
