Corvette mechanic in Edmonton - any suggestions?

deebee, Aug 19, 2017 at 5:11 PM, General Corvette Discussion
Was wondering if anyone could recommend a good LS1 mechanic in Edmonton for my 1999 C5?

It needs the harmonic balancer replaced, and I would rather not take it to a dealership and can't do it myself. I have all the parts.... just am researching shops.

I have been to a few but didn't get a good feeling from them, although Moretto did give a good estimate and I believe their LS1 guy is still there. At least in the spring he was.

I was considering CCMR (he wouldn't give an estimate, though) and Horsepower Solutions (but heard the mechanics are kids, not journeymen) but obviously am open to suggestions.

I was going to take it to Calgary but don't want to risk having the balancer let go on the way there.

    Thanks!

    Defective Serpentine Belt

    rockitman, Aug 18, 2017 at 9:23 AM, C7 Forum
I have a 2016 Stingray with 13,000kms and while cleaning under the hood, noticed a black powder on the passenger side inner fender and various other areas. It was my serpentine belt that had the center groove missing and the steel belts showing. The dealer replaced it, plus examined the pulley to check for a cause. The belt was defective.
This may be something to watch for.

    GM Goodwrench & Earnhardt Sponsorship

    Black 03 Z06, Aug 17, 2017 at 7:52 PM, Off-Topic
This photo courtesy of book seller Coastal 181. Thought it was interesting. The Intimidator certainly represented GM well over the years. Still find it difficult to accept the loss of Earnhardt.

#1869 - “GM Goodwrench’s first appearance as Earnhardt’s primary sponsor came in the 1986 Busch Series season opener at Daytona. Here, he waits on a postcard-perfect Daytona day with Morgan Shepherd (7) and Ken Bouchard (10) for practice to begin prior to the race.” Quote and photo from DALE vs DAYTONA: The Intimidator’s Quest to win the Great American Race, by Rich Houston (Photo Courtesy Dick Conway)

    Finding the right service dealer

    rockitman, Aug 14, 2017 at 7:22 PM, 403/780
Every time I get together with a group of like minded people, the question of which dealership will comply with the needs of us, the Corvette/Camaro or GM owner. Many of us have had a poor experience with the service at one dealer or other. I own three GM vehicles and had good success with a local dealership. In the past this dealership was terrible with service, or should I say NO Service. They have since changed a lot of staff and management to try to make necessary changes to have SERVICE. Its a big word. I was there again today with my Corvette and mentioned to Iain Woodger that so many of us have an issue finding a good dealership to have service done at. I explained that we are a meticulous group of people and just want good service and we will pass this on to many. He has been in the business for a while and recognises the need for good service.
I would suggest that Local GM dealership in ST. Albert will deliver. They are defiantly trying to become a dealer to...

    Never say Never

    rockitman, Aug 13, 2017, C7 Forum
20170810_144701_002.jpg Last month there was a post on rocks that get between the rear quarter panel on the C6. As I had two C6s I replied that I never had an issue with this and didn't know of anyone that did.
Well now I do have an issue on my C7 with rocks in between the rear quarter panel. I removed them with a very small pick and they were really wedged in there.
Has any one else experienced this issue?

    Punks

    williame3590, Aug 13, 2017, Off-Topic
Wife takes the Wrangler with hardtop off into Binbrook today to pick up a few groceries. Two tough guys in a beat up blue pick up think launching a large chunk of ice at her would be hilarious. Smashed against the windshield and scared the crap out of Laurie.
She said the ice chunk was pretty big. There wasn't time to get the plate and when she noticed that she had left her phone in the shop there was no point in turning around to track and report.
All I want is 5 minutes with them. Is that too much to ask??

    Break in puffin?

    ddgermann, Aug 11, 2017, C7 Z06
    Hi all,
As most of you are likely aware, and likely tired of hearing about by now, I just picked up my new Z a couple days ago. I noticed leaving the dealership the engine was not crisp from idle. It had a hesitation and the sound of air getting sucked in. My 15 was similar but not so pronounced. It is much better now but still requires a bit more attention taking off at the lights with the M7. Otherwise the engine seems fine and feels responsive above idle.
I have 200Km on the car now and today gearing down approaching a red light a big cloud of blue/white smoke belched out of the car. It smelled like fuel and came with a bit of a backfire. 3rd to 2nd RPMs 3000ish on the downshift.
Wondering if the computer is still learning or what? It never did it again during the rest of the 80km trip of highway and city.
Anybody see this with their C7 Z06 new or otherwise?

    Derek

Abbotsford, Mt Lehman Rd. Mill Fire

    turbozig, Aug 9, 2017, 604/250/778
After a wonderful meet yesterday at Graham's house in Langley, met 9 other Corvette owners that day. I had made plans to go with James from the forum, to go for the day up to Whistler for a cruise. We went for the day from Chilliwack, then to West Vancouver, met up with James, then cruised to Squamish, Whistler, and then Pemberton and then headed back to Chilliwack for dinner. On the way back, at about 5:50 pm, I was passing the Mt. Lehman turnoff and watched a huge fire build to the right of the highway as I was passing. The smoke billowed as I approached for about 10km, not expecting to see the highway grass, trees and bush on fire as I passed. I have all the video on my PDR, but am unsure how to post video yet. As I was passing the fire, huge 2-3 inch flaming embers are floating and a couple landed on my car as passed. As soon as the traffic finished rubbernecking, we all sped up quickly realizing the extent of the danger beside us. Thank goodness the woman behind me braked...

    OEM wheel?

    00808_d54CgIeLsI8_600x450.jpg

Is this wheel an OEM option for the C3? I have them on my car (not mine pictured) and I've seen them on a few other 81/82 C3s but I can't find anything that lists them as a dealer option?

    Thanks, Brett
