Hey guys,

So I finished my engine build with a ZZ4 350 short block with a nasty cam and AFR 210 heads. It's over 500hp which undoubtably creates quite the sound. I put some Magnaflow mufflers on it which toned it down considerably, however it still is rather loud. On the highway it turns around 3000 rpm (I need a four speed!) and it has a bit of drone. Now don't get me wrong, I would not have built the engine like this if I didn't want the sound or the power but is there anyway to tone it down a bit further without major hp decreases? I was thinking resonators before the mufflers, maybe even electric (if that's a thing) so that I still have that unrestricted flow if I want. I've also heard of steel wool toning it down. It's not the worst and I can definitely get use to it but I thought I'd ask and see what you guys think.

Thanks Rruuff Day! Will do.

Nascar 03,

Hahaha, ya don't get me wrong. I like the noise, maybe it's more of a drone that's why I was thinking of some resonators.

I also have 3:55 in the back with a TH400 Auto.

Put a ZZ383 Deluxe in the '72 2 summers ago. Running long headers and Dynamax Ultraflows - no drone. Do you uave an x or h pipe installed as that should help a bit.
No X or H pipe installed as of yet. I decided not to run one to ease any driveshaft removal.

Just an update on the problem. My FiTech did some major tweeking the last time I got it out (sadly the last time this year, as it's getting too cold). It was a lot more tame. It only backfired twice which was is major improvement. After that drive I remembered that other people with Magnaflow XL mufflers said that their mufflers actually "broke in". Apparently there is mesh in the inside that burns away with time making the tone lower.

Who knows. I will consider the X or H pipe if I notice it's a problem next year. Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know nothin' about being quiet!!
I have FlowMasters with a 4sp(man) & 3:55s...
I love the sound at 3800rpm/79mph. All day!

Jr.. I wanna see pics too!!!

I assume you are running an auto! What gears are in the back?
Maybe you need more RPMs...!View attachment 6341

The FiTech tbi unit has been getting very good reviews. On the other hand the Fuel Command Centre has very few positive reviews. Looking fwd to reading teviews on Holley's new Sniper which is priced the same as the FiTech unit.
Interesting. Didn't know Holley was coming out with a new system. Ya, I decided to pass on the fuel command center although I never even really considered it. It doesn't support the Meanstreet 800Hp one I have on my car. Plus I heard some bad things about it so I bought a seperate external fuel pump and I'm pleased with it so far and so are the people I refered systems too and all of them are running nicely.

It took about 15 drives of the car, including emails sent to the team at FiTech to get mine running nicely. It just needs some accelerator pump tunning and it'll be perfect. That was trying to tune the system and break in an engine at the same time so there were some difficulties.

Did you use a C5 regulator with rtn to tank or run a new line from the FiTech to your tank? Read a few reviews so far on the Sniper and so far so good, the one guy replaced his FiTech unit with it. Plusses and minus to each but I don't think that you would go wrong with either unit. Glad to hear that things are going well with your exhaust, engine and f.i.

Thanks! Ya it's been a good experience.

Actually, the FiTech has a built in regulator. So what I did is use the existing hard line. My pump a capable of 150PSI so I bought some 300PSI hose. Because the hardline is already flared I wasn't able to use AN adaptors. Instead I used two clamps at every connection to the hardline. So far so good. No leaks.

However, I do have a problem with a gas smell through the hose. No leaks but the vapors are passing through. Actually, if you have an idea on how I could fit AN hose adaptor onto the line I would really appreciate that! Or a solution to eliminate the smell.

In the second picture you can see the double hose clamps on the hardline.
