I have watched these vehicles over the years as well and have wished several times that I had both the ambition and the mechanical aptitude, and also the 20 years it would probably take me to restore one.... ahhhhh.... another life maybe... Thanks for the post Elf.
 
I have gone onto these websites eg. Copart.com and even bid on a Porsche and a 66 vette. I didn't get either. There are many, many bidders. The low ball dollars we see are the best possible scenarios. Most of the time the dollars are significantly higher. The dollar CAN vs. US, plus the auction fees and taxes make the numbers climb really quickly. Then of course, the cost of restoring some of these beauties.
 
A mid year car would be phenomenal! That one looks like a good start for a resto....but as stated, a flood damage car may be easier as you can rip all the wiring out and install a painless harness to get the electronics back up, then a new interior and off you go!....as long as the frame and everything is ok...
