I think I did a pretty good job for $150

That doesn’t look like a rattle can job ….. ;) nice ! Why $150 , did you have it painted for you ? I wouldn’t mind turning mine red to match the valve covers.
It's actually surprising how good a job you can do with a "rattle can" if you ignore the Cdn tire junk and buy high end paint cans from an automotive paint dealer and learn how to use them. We have a shop here that specializes in automotive paint supplies and will mix you any paint code or build you a color. Not cheap though.

Same here, but all the cheap red ones on eBay are a dull matte finish, not a bright metallic color (to match my red mist car)
They also vary in price from $100 to over $1,000 . Too many choices especially when you have no idea what they are like until you have one in your hand. If you’re painting it yourself or having it painted professionally as long as the moulding of the part is of decent quality it probably doesn’t matter much. The trick is knowing which one to start with.

Having painted many guitars I know from experience you should always stick to lacquer spray paints
Wow... I have never even considered painting one of my guitars although I do have this one that my nephew painted and presented to me for my birthday one year...

Apologies for the de-rail....
