Who bought this warranty? And how much did you guys pay from the dealer ? Have you used it?

I’m getting parnoid now after seeing the posts regarding the rims cracking and bent rims on the grand sport and Z06.

I’m going to the dealer tomorrow to sign and to tell them I don’t want the extended warranty but I’m thinking now if I should get the wheel / tire warranty or put the money towards a set or forged wheels. Apparently GM isn’t covering the cracked rims under new car warranty🤨

I don’t buy any warranties and am able to sleep at night with the decision. Others buy warranties so that they can sleep at night. Extended warranty is always sold by “fear tactic” in my book ... hence why I say screw it ... I’m not going to be bullied ...

I never nay-say to anyone for buying a warranty ... it’s peace of mind for them and that truly matters.

Oh yes my knuckles hurt as I knock on wood a lot whenever I chat about my warranty choices ... 😁👍🏻
Wife just saying now “You thinking of the Amii Stewart song again ... are you?” 😂
(Crap now I got Disco stuck in my head now and probably for many just reading this  ... sorry :Sorry:)

If the wheels are just cracking or bending for no apparent reason, there is an argument for GM to put a recall in place. I haven't heard of any cracking or bent rims from our members and we have a lot of C7 GS and Z06's in our membership. Yes. There's not a lot of sidewall space on performance tires so hitting those nasty deep and sharp potholes could bend or break a rim and yes. GM is justified at not covering those. I didn't buy any warranties and can also sleep at night.

Alright, I just saw the post in corvette forums. Apparently it’s from setting the car in sport and track and also they fact the the tires are run flats.

I know there are a lot of factors to consider like driving habits, how rough the road is, hitting potholes etc. I’m somewhat relieved to hear that it isn’t common here.
I was just worried because people were talking class action lawsuit haha. I’m going to confirm with my salesman tomorrow as well as far as wheels cracking due to defect and if they would cover or not.

I’m on my 2 C7 Z06 and have never had a problem.
It has been clearly stated by GM not to run your car in “track” mode on the street as severe jarring of potholes or whatever can damage the rims and suspension components. It might even be in your OM.

I heard stuff in this problem a couple years ago but nothing since.
Remember you bought a high performance car that’s engineered and built with maximum weight and rotation mass reduction. Treat it as such and you will be fine.
Driving you new car in sport mode is perfectly alright. I have hit a serious pothole doing 110 kph in sport mode with my 15 and despite the big bump and bang... the car suffered no damage.
Don’t let the hype spook you. The car is reliable and very sturdy out of the box with no modifications required.
I have never bought any extra warranty for any of my corvettes and so far none of my corvettes have been anything but excellent.
Hopefully you have the same experience.
Nothing wrong with buying warranty if it makes you feel more comfortable but I spent the $$ on Mods.

Peace. ✌️

The only "issue" my 2016 3LT has is that it’s developing an “exposed carbon fibre rash"
that I think “we” caught from being parked too close to Derek's ...
managing to keep it to the exterior (so far) 😂
Other than that ... knock on wood ... no issues needing warranty
at 16000 (kms) from BC thru to Manitoba and North Dakota and Montana.
The Wife's 2017 3LT remains awesome at about 3000 (kms)

Extended warranties make car dealers rich. I know because I sold them for 34 years before I retired from the retail automotive sector. They are a high gross profit/low dealer cost item that fall in the same category as rustproofing, paint and interior treatments. My advice to anyone considering an extended warranty would be a) if you can't afford to fix the car, don't buy it and b) put the money you would pay for an extended in the bank as a "rainy day" fund that can be paid toward a major repair if necessary.

I think I will stick with the Eddie Floyd version. No disco for me.

At the Ron Fellows course they said no one should ever run their car in track mode unless they're on a track because it's so hard you can crack a rim hitting a expansion joint at speed on the road.

I have 50 k on my 2016 Z06 convertible... and it spent 2 winters parked in the garage in Calgary. I bought it to drive it and when the weather is good it's on the road.
The factory warranty runs out in 2 months, and I just bought an extended warranty and here's why...
Warranty covered -
Complete rear end replacement (yup the whole thing)
Supercharger belt
All rotors have been replaced
Too many electronic repairs to list
Key fob replacement
Seat movement mechanism repair
Replace 2 side air scoops
I'm sure there's more and I've blocked it out of my mind.

Last summer I hit a pothole on the QEW outside of Toronto and cracked the right rear rim. GM wanted 2 grand for a replacement rim and another $700 to check the other 3 rims for bending. My car insurance also wouldn't have covered the rim.
I leaned on GM and got them down to $1,000 for the new rim. After multiple calls and e-mails to the service manager at the dealership in Calgary without even the courtesy of a reply, I bought a set of rotary forged aftermarket rims and had them installed.
With this dismal service history, I bought a GM extended warranty for 2k. <sigh>
In summary, this car has been repaired a lot and in my case, I believe the extended warranty will be worth it.
I likely won't ever buy another GM vehicle after what they've put me through.
I do like driving the car and will be keeping it.

I'm never big on warranty packages, the only reason these packages even exist is because the companies providing this service are taking in more money from John Q. Public than they are paying out, its a 'business' to them and you can't exist any other way.
However, lets not forget that this warranty package not only covers the wheels, it also covers the tires. I ended up with an 8 year tire and wheel coverage for $798. One nail in the side wall of one tire will exceed what I paid for the 8 year coverage.
Also, $798 over 8 years is only $100 a year, I've paid more than that for a bottle of a scotch. Main thing to remember is whether or not your new purchase is going to be a 'driver' or will it spend more time sitting in the garage? We took delivery of our Z51 on August 20th and put over 5K on it before putting it to bed in early November, obviously the more your drive it the higher the risk level of something happening.

Hi J S.
I'm no fan of extended warranties either, but after 3 years of significant repair activity I feel the value will be there.
Wish I had bought the wheel and tire warranty. Too schmaart too late.
Do yourself a favour and get the wheels aligned without the track camber settings. Otherwise the inside corners of the tires will be shot at 20,000 km. There is a posting on this site with road / track configuration.
The origional quote for the extended warranty was $4,600. I bought it last week for $2,020. Emailed a dozen dealerships for quotes and then went to my local GM dealership and asked them and they beat the next lowest by $200.

I think I will stick with the Eddie Floyd version. No disco for me.
... actually neither versions of the song are on my play list and its just a response to me
from my Baby-boomer (disco teenaged) spouse whenever
I physically "knock on wood" after saying some things ... that I maybe should not say.

...forgot a couple of other reasons that makes extended warranty discretionary for me ...
1. they are scare-marketed by the "finance dept" at the dealership along with paint and fabric protection :Shifty: and not actually sold by an experienced service related representative.
2. buying 2 New GMC in 2015, a 2016 Corvette and a second in 2017, the cost of warranties that were offered amounted to 40% of the price paid for a New 2017 Trax for my kid to use.
3. it feels that most cars are built to be disposable

... I will however consider buying a warranty if I find myself using the factory warranty on any of these 5 vehicles which, for some reason I have not had much of any factory warranty claims with 11 new GM vehicles (Olds,GMC,Pontiac&Chevys) in my garage since 1989.
... and so yes ... I'm "knocking on wood again" ...

Those who have bought extended warranty and made "good use" from them, I am
very happy that they were covered .

I’m in the research stages haha I know now that you get what you pay for when it comes to wheels. But you guys will see them for sure.

Those are nice! Stock size? How much ?
Hi!
Yes, stock size. These Cray rims are another half-inch wider though.
Cray Spyder rotary forged rims - they only weigh about 28 pounds!
After it was all said n done, about 3 grand.
Rims, shipping, R&R the tires and the tpms sensors balance and instal.
Much easier to clean than the factory rims.
You can call Sammy at Force Autostyling in Calgary for a quote.
