none right now.
All I can say is...WOW...what an improvement!

Set the initial timing to 12* first of all. Then reset the idle mixture and curb idle speed with a vacuum gauge. Managed to get 19" of HG @ 600 RPM, right within spec. Vacuum gauge was very steady which is a good sign of the health of this old engine. Then worked on the advance curve and got it to 36* at about 2800 RPM with the vacuum advance disconnected and 52* all in with the vacuum advance connected. With the mixture set right the car is no longer burning my eyes at idle which is a bonus.

Took it out for a good run. No sign of detonation and throttle response is much improved. No more bog of idle like I had last year; even managed to lay a good patch of rubber off the line which was impossible last year. :D 60 MPH comes up much quicker on the speedo now. Put 25 miles on the car today!

I'll have to keep an ear open for pinging as the weather warms up.

Thanks to Doug (Buckhorn 76) for all his advice and for selling me his timing light. Really like that light; so easy to use.

"curb idle", "total timing', "mixture", "bog", "detonation", 'pinging", "advance curve", and the weirdest of all: "timing light"? -- what language is that? It does sound like you had some fun tho.:D

Sounds like she'll go as good as she looks now Greg. Roll on summer!

You'll have to explain all those funny terms to me next time we meet up.:p

Ancient history lesson needed Colin?

nice thing about the h.e.i. is it's very user friendly. i liked the previous g.m. point ignition to work on as well with the side "window" in the distributor, hook up a dwell/tach and adjust. the dual points on my old mopars could be finicky at times.

One got pretty good at it tho didn't they Doug? Every second weekend: clean and gap the plugs, touch up the points and regap if necessary and check the timing......oh yeah and don't forget to mess with the idle screws on the carb.... fun times.
