Slide 1 of 29: 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Spy Photos

Now we know why it won't be in Detroit next month.
Earlier this week we learned about Chevy’s plans for the 2019 Detroit Auto Show next month, or better said, the lack of one. That’s because the company with the bowtie emblem does not have any debuts scheduled for NAIAS, which means the much-awaited Corvette C8 won’t be in the Motor City. Now we know why. GM Authority heard from “sources familiar with the matter” the engineers working on the mid-engined Vette have stumbled upon a problem, forcing Chevy to push back the car’s debut.

The report goes on to specify there’s a “major electrical issue” with the next-generation Corvette as the car’s electrical system cannot cope with the necessary load of all the components. Engineers now have to rework the vehicle’s electrical system, and that will have an impact with suppliers as Chevy is going to need different electrical components to make everything work.

This setback in the development process is causing a six-month delay, but the silver lining is the mid-engined Corvette will probably still be ready for a market launch as a 2020MY. In other words, we should still expect the wraps to come off at some point next year – that is if everything goes according to the plan. Worst case scenario, it will be available as a 2021MY.
A major issue occurring towards the end of the development process is terrible news for any automaker, and it looks like Chevy doesn’t want to show the C8 until it’s truly production-ready. They could easily bring it to Detroit even with the electrical problems it’s having, but with the mid-engined supercar being such an important launch, it makes sense they don’t want to rush things. People have been waiting for this car literally for decades, so a few more months of delay is not the end of the world.

Thank you. Saw that yesterday; I totally agree that it is best for GM to take their time, bring out a great final product. After all we are testing in the testing and development phase, so this is a good time to find and fix and fine tune the car before it is revealed.

Guess when they were doing their testing they did not have all the bells and whistles hooked up or installed.
Must be a bit more than a higher output alternator or bigger battery would solve.
Your ready to put your foot outside when you notice you forget to put on your shoes!

delayed c8 is on the bad side ...
on the good side is optimism for continued c7-zr1 production (as 2019zr1s are done) ...
then a certain crappy gm dealership with a $30k msrp markup on a zr1 can go to 7734
(read the numbers upside-down on your calculator) with this advertised gesture :Rage:
hmmm ...
I should meet with my dealer in a week and consider replanting a zr1 thought again.

I think that its noteworthy that just last week, GM announced the sale of 2019 Corvettes to the Phillipines starting Jan 2019, and then shortly after, we hear about the delay in the C8 intro.
I'm not sure that GM would have moved forward with adding a new market for the C7 if they intended to halt production in the spring or summer of 2019. I'm guessing that C7 production will continue at least through summer 2019, maybe into the fall.

Now the ZR1 will have to be 850 Hp to make up for the newest delay to try to please some of the people hoping to buy a 2020 C8. I would like to see a twin turbo ZR1 for a grand finale 2020 C7 ZR1. I prefer the current configuration over a mid engine design myself, I just can't seem to forget the Fierro problems in the 80's when I think of mid engine GM cars.

So, six more months of development and more components.........hmmmmmm.........I wonder how much that costs? Not to mention the lost revenue for six months when they could've been selling the car. They'll want to recoup that somehow. I wonder where they'll find the money??? LOL. I realize the article states the car may still be a 2020MY vehicle, but you can't tell me that this isn't going to delay the car's arrival at dealerships. Yeah, I'm even more confident this will be a $100K car in Canada.......easily.

Edit: I just saw on my FB feed that "The Drive" is indicating that the entire electrical system needs to be re-engineered................uhhhhhhh.....WTF??? It's almost as if they were proceeding the same as they did with the Z06........"Yep, it's ready to go." "But have you guys made sure you can keep it cool and run it all day long at the track like the Viper because you are billing it as the most 'Track Capable' Corvette ever?" "Cooling?" "Uh..............yeah.............I think Fred took care of that part..........." LOL......

Exactly .. as I don't mind to wait either .. as long as the C8 is 100% perfectly to be ready before is being revealed to the world .. for now I can hold to my C7 for a while .. since it's only 600KM on the speedo .. so i'm good
