Got my first ticket in the Corvette yesterday. 119 in a 90, he tagged me and the Green M3 right in front of me. Lake Louise. Reduced the ticket to 105 saving me 100.00. Was a sheriff so i was surprised at the break he gave me. He was very polite and respectful. My question is can he get an accurate reading on 2 cars so close together? My radar detector did not make a sound. He was using laser.

Dan... On the chance that I am going to be joked about once again for my ability to turn a short question into a somewhat lengthy detailed answer (see Ackerman Priciple....lol).... I will keep this short.....

Traditional radar cannot differentiate between cars unless he is quite close to you or at right angles to you as the radar beam spreads out like a dunce cap cone the further away he is and will pick up multiple things at the same time, with no way to tell which is which.

Laser on the other hand is a narrow beam which the officer can aim. Thus he can clock the M3, reset, aim again and clock another vehicle within a few seconds. Whether he did that or not is another question as your radar detector didn't go off. If he reset and clocked you as well, your detector (unless it's a 1957 model) should have gone off.... I suspect he just clocked the M3 and just tagged you at the same speed cause you were together...

Bad luck Dan. I don't have an issue with the speeding ticket if I did something wrong but it is the damn insurance that is the killer. You are really forced to fight each and every one just clogging up the legal system and costing the taxpayers more.

He probably had time to do that. The only saving grace is Alberta does not share ticket information with BC so it does not show up anywhere on my license or insurance. I was also going 140 prior to that so I will take my lumps. I am always very respectful to law enforcement unless they are not respectful to me. Guilty as charged and thankfully we weren't side by side doing 160:). That M3 was pretty cool looking and I hear they are fairly quick (but not as quick as a supercharged C7) :)
