That's a good question for Graham @nascar03 . Pretty sure it will depend on what scale you want Jeff and the quality of course.

Graham has a slot car track in the trunk of his car. Really does! @nascar03 has been racing scale cars for a long time.

I have many cars and lots of track just waiting for the basement to be cleared out to get racing. Thinking 16 feet by 6 feet will work with the space I have.

Hey Jeff....
The new thing in Slot Car racing now is Digital sets that allows for up to 6 cars racing on two lane tracks.
There are lane change sections so you can change lanes and pass your opponent.
Digital also means you can manage fuel per car and you have to pull into pit lane to refuel in the longer races. Even simulated tire/car damage thru restricted speed until you pit.
Base digital sets start from $500, then from there you keep adding more track and cars.
CARRERA & SCALEXTRIC are the big players in the slot car world these days.
