Our good friend Colin came back for a meth install on his ECS kit and was rewarded with a nice gain of 50 rwhp and 36 rwtq.

And you know what-there's still alot more left in there!

:D

Nice watching you work today Arun -- Wow, another 50rwhp and 36rwtq -- with a nice safe running meth kit. real magic... and there's more yet -- unbelievable!
Awesome job Arun, Manny, Dave, and Andrew. Thanks for staying late for me.

I still can't believe I've hit 615 rwhp and 568 rwtq. There is some serious power there.....wow.:D

So worth it. I'm sorry that I couldn't stay longer to see your baby on the dyno.

Wow. that is serious power!!! At what point do things start to break? Transmissions? driveshafts? Is it only when the tyres don't spin anymore!?!?

WOW! Really serious power there Colin! Good job guys. :coolgleam:

Great, as always, to see you again, Justin -- Thanks from everyone there for allowing use of your Go-Pro for videoing my runs.
Didn't get to the dynos until 7'ish anyway.
Be sure and let us know your schedule at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

I will be going up to Manny's again Friday afternoon about 4 if you can stop in again on your way to work.

Antony: From what I understand, things get 'dicey' when power exceeds about 700hp on these LS engines -- Of course the more you beat on it the dicier it gets -- For my style of driving with an occasional 'tickle' of the hot pedal it shouldn't be an issue at all. It I were drag racing, then beefing up the driveline and installing forged engine internals might be prudent -- but no drag racing for me any time soon. :D (tho I'd love to know the numbers on the car now, so there may be one run in the future).

Yeah tires -- they're the weakest link as far as I can tell -- OEM runflats are all but useless for any serious traction -- way too hard. Noisy and harsh riding anyway. I'll have to do some homework when choosing my next set, which may not be too far down the road.;)
Probably go with Michelin Pilot S/Sports in as wide as will fit.

Serious for sure Greg -- :)

Dasilva Motorsports knows how to make some power but more than that they care how you use it and that you know its potential.

That is a fantastic gain! Wooooooooooooo Hoooooooooo! I can't wait to hear about the first time you are able to stop tickling the hot pedal and give it a good scratch!

Great numbers Colin. Hopefully you can enjoy the car. Looks like the weather is starting to turn for the better.

The old Goodyear run flats are pretty useless even with a 400 hp LS2. They don't make enough traction to hurt anything. With all that hp, you may be bouncing off the rev limiter more than you would like.

Colin you must be just beside yourself with happiness! Isn't it great how things can change so dramatically over just the winter? You and I are going to have a lot to compare next week with our cars............

That is a totally fantastic outcome the DaSilva crew was able to achieve. 250 more rwhp, you must be just shaking your head these days. Now time to get your seat covers up to date!! Or are there more "surprises" yet to come?!

Cheers,

Garry

Thanks for all the kind words guys-it really means alot to us over at Dasilva's.

It's not very often that you can call your customers friends-but I really feel we have that here and it's a great feeling.

We appreciate every car and person that walks through the shop and we take great pride in everything we do-and it's all thanks to you guys!

Still thinking about adding meth too. I am going to see how things go with Colin's car and use him as my guide on this one.

To Manny or Arun if you see this, how would my car use the meth in comparison to Colin's since mine revs up so much faster with the gear and stall? Would I go through more of it than he would because of it? Can it be set up to applied at a particular level of boost or rpm so I'm not using it just putting around town?

Thanks

I saw your Vette the other day when I was at Manny's with Colin. She's looking good. I didn't get to hear her as she was being worked on. I'm sure that the meth would be an awesome addition to your set up. My assumption was that the meth injection was only as needed. I think that you have full control as to when and how much you need based in boost. Not sure 100%. Correct me if I'm wrong, but under normall driving you probably wouldn't use any more than Colin. It would be more or less dependant on how much boost you are running, tune, octane and HP wise. I would love to see this on the dyno.:cool:

I'm going to watch to see how much meth Colin uses in his everyday driving. I just know that I don't have to push the car hard to get her in the 3,500-4,000rmp range. I just don't want to be using meth when I don't need to. If I'm over 75% throttle and rowing through the gears, then I would want it. Otherwise not. I need to know how it can be set up. I would not be using it to neccessarily extract more power, but instead to keep things cool and safe.

Fair enough. Totally makes sense. Some guys are all about RWHP numbers, but playing safe is a good call and probably the route that I would go too if my Z was supercharged. What gears did you go with?

The car has 3.42s plus a 2800 stall.

You don't use any meth when you are not in boost. In normal day to day driving you are rarely in boost and its really not an issue. I top it up maybe once a week or after a visit to the track. On top of that I use windshield washer so its really no hassle.

Right on Canuck -- not much usage during normal driving and not in boost.
Arun's comment was that no Meth is injected until 4lbs of boost is reached (since there's no need) and the meth is injected in a few different stages controlled by computer to optimize fuel/meth/air ratio.

I'm really not expecting to use very much Rob, but will monitor it and get a feel for usage. I picked up a couple of 4 liter jugs from Home Depot each for about $10......Not too outlandishly expensive and very good insurance as you say Rob.
A side benefit is a few extra ponies and torques after retuning for meth but that can't be avoided.
Arun says there's more on tap (very easily) if needed by modifying the inlet restrictor plate......somewhere around 50 hp and torque and he said quite safely if that's the way one needs to go.
Upping boost to 10 or 12 psi would have a similar effect and he says quite safely too.

I personally think that you'll be quite happy with 550-600 hp but more is there without much bother or expense for very little risk.

I saw the readout of the IAT on my dynos, Rob, and did the meth ever cool things off: From about 120F to about 50F -- Quite dramatic cooling and the byproduct of meth is that it's effectively about 110 octane so absolutely no pinging or detonation. -- Very safe conditions. Canuck has said that he "wouldn't leave home without it" and I've heard that from many now in my travels.

See you tomorrow Rob......should be about mid morning.

Cheers
Colin
