Cleaning Vararm Filter?

Just a question for anyone with a Vararam set up. How do you clean the filter element? I used Dawn detergent to clean out all the old oil/greases/dirt but can't get rid of all the bug bits stuck in the filter element. Does anyone have a good procedure for getting their filter squeaky clean?

I just upgraded to the green filter last year so this is my first time cleaning a filter of this style.

Did you try sucking the bug bits out with a vacuum or blowing them out with an air gun?
I have done both with success.

Can't believe no one else has chimed in on this topic.

I do mine two times per season.

I'm more lazy and normally I do this before I put the car away for winter. I would imagine that you should clean your filter when you would normally be changing it, however, it would not be a bad idea to do it more often as the filter does grab the air from directly in front of the car.

Funny that I never thought of using compressed air or a vacuum. It seems so basic now that I am going to give that a rip the next time my filter is out. Thanks Mark!
