Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) - Aichi M6A1 Seiran ("Clear Sky Storm" / "Mountain Haze") - Air and Space Smithsonian - Udvar Hazy Center - July 29th, 2009 1158 RTThe Aichi M6A1 Seiran ("Clear Sky Storm" or "Mountain haze", translations differ) was a floatplane designed to strike the Panama Canal after transport and launch from a Japanese Submarine (I-400). The Seiran's wings stowed and folded in a manner similar to Grumman aircraft of the era. Also, the Seiran used a Aichi license-built version of the Daimler-Benz DB 601 inverted V-12 engine which was also used by the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Bf 110.
