Forget “Spyder” or HT convertible, for right now it is looking like it will be called what is have been since 1953.

Will this name hold for next Wendesday’s 7:30 PM (EST) reveal, or might there be a change?

No surprise here. "Spyder" is a European term, just like "roadster" for soft top convertibles. In the USA, convertibles have always been called convertibles.

What does GM call the coupes with removable roof panels ? I know it isn’t Targa as Porsche owns that tag.

My guess is.... Removable hardtop ?

I really like this feature - act like a wind screen - maybe? on the vert - which I may get after seeing the reveal early next week.

Yes, I will order the vert.
I am thinking this as well.....although looking at the sweet engine is also very cool...I'm kind of torn....I am going in tomorrow to my dealer to check on the restrictions...so I think that means I am going to possibly submit my build...but with this convertible news WOW what a spot to be in.

I'll start with this statement: this is100% just my PERSONAL opinion. So please, no flaming if you differ.

The C8 "convertible" really doesn't seem like a convertible in the traditional sense. Convertibles (to me) have always been ragtops. What I see on the C8 is a retractable hardtop. It's still open air motoring, but not exactly a convertible.

Keeping in mind I haven't seen one in person yet, but the only difference I see between the couple and "convertible" is the rear window drops down and the rear deck is low to give you that open feel.

I dunno, maybe it's just me but the C8 just doesn't seem like a "convertible" to me.

IMHO, from what I can see in the press releases, GM could drop the "coupe" and only produce the "convertible" and not make much of a big difference in their sales. Every car I've ever driven with a retractable hard top feels identical to an actual hardtop when the roof is up.

But, I think every Vette should be sold as a 'vert. 99% of vette owners don't drive them in the winter and I'd wager it's close to the 75% mark for owners that don't even drive them in the rain. So why not have the enjoyment of no roof motoring 100% of the time. The retractable hardtop just makes it convenient when you park it somewhere or if you get caught in the rain.

Now, racing? I contradict my last statement and say a coupe would be the preferred way to go there. Both for regulating bodies rules and chassis rigidity.

Remember; it's only my personal opinion. If you have a different one, that's cool too. Everyone's opinion is valid (since opinions are all subjective) and yet they can be contradictory and still co-exist peacefully at the same time.

:)

Amazingly, the Convertible now has the storage advantage over the coupe! As it doesn't take up any storage space when down, unlike the coupe, which must store it's panel in the trunk.
One question I have is if you could retrofit the power rear glass from the convertible into the coupe so you could hear those sweet engine sounds!.....or if someone farts, quickly whisk the offending musk out the back.
