C8 ZR1 Most Expensive Order

So who are the ballers that have an order in and getting one?

edit: over on the "other" forum someone in Michigan had their car arrive at the dealership, a yellow one non ZTK.
Apparently only 302 being produced this year and when you think of the number that will come to Canada there won’t be many getting them up here unless you own a Corvette dealership….

Using an exchange rate of 1.40 a maxed out ZR1 is $347941 which “all in” in BC would be $471460….and that is without a dealer markup!

That I believe is more than a DB12 . Crazy . The so called luxury tax is a killer. You can almost see it on a purchase of this size on a rare exotic such as the ZR-1 but it’s a bit unreasonable for it to be applied to a base Stingray considering that many decent pickups cost just as much and for many people they are a necessity not a luxury. And to add insult to injury it’s in actuality a tax on a tax on a tax . At the end of the day let’s just call it what it is. Another cash grab.

So if you found that thread with the yellow ZR1 delivered to a Michigan dealer, purchaser of that car can't get it yet cause GM hasn't invoiced the dealer for the car and the potential owner of that car is trying to get insurance on it. Looks like he was using Farmer's and they gave him a hard "NO" on insuring that car. Hagerty has quoted him around US$4200/year to insure it when that person is usually comfortable with around US$1200-1400 year.

Who buys a car and not checks what insurance will be before actually ready to pay the money to drive it home???? SMH

Exactly. And that’s only 1% of the value of the car in $CAD . Considerably less than a lot of folks on this forum are paying…

As a weekend 'toy', it's a tough sell to the Mrs. when my it looks exactly like my E-Ray (short of the picnic table spoiler).
Yes, it has a lot of power - a good deal more power than my E-Ray (which I never fully use now anyhow).
Bragging rights? Sure, if that's important to you.

Financially, as an investment? Possibly, but it's a gamble.
Let's say you have the money, set aside in a 'tax-free' situation (as most with substantial resources will do - RRSP, Holding Companies, etc.).
To convert that 'tax safety net' into spendable dollars, while you are remaining as a working stiff, you will pay upwards of 50% in taxes.
You could, of course, try to convince the CRA that a ZR1 is a legitamite company expense, through a lease or purchase (good luck with that).
You could also borrow the money to buy the car, outside of the 'locked-in, tax-deferred' cache of savings.
Regardless of where the money comes from, the overall effect on a person's net worth will take a 'hit' much larger than the list price.

So, is it worth it?
Apparently, based on the resale numbers of past ZR1's, it could very well be.
Would I personally buy one, then put it on a shelf for 10 or 20 years to maximize the investment potential - I think not.

That said, yes, I am on a couple of lists, but what I will do should my allotment ever come to fruition is still very much a mystery.
For all those naysayers ot there concerned with the supply and demand propaganda, my 2 to 3 year wait on a Stingray took 6 months, and my 5 year wait (if ever) on an E-ray took 2 years.
