C8-R sounds

You are right it does not sound like a typical Corvette motor.

Damn, that is one cheesy looking paint job on that car.

The sound is different due to it being a flat plane engine vs a cross plane that is in the base C8 ( and earlier generations ) . This allows the engine to rev higher. Here is a great article explaining the difference Battle of Cross VS Flat plane V8

My understanding is the Z06 will be getting a flat plane turbo charged engine ( 5.2 or 5.5 L ) producing around 800hp . So more power and lower weight.

I hope you're correct on the lower weight. A smaller engine weighs less, but the turbos will have their associated plumbing which will add weight. Maybe it will be a trade off? I personally would like to see something like a naturally aspirated flat plane 5.5 L with about 600 HP and having a 8000 rpm redline. I guess we'll know in another year or two.

Or less if that tape from the Ring (last year) sounds right. Obviously Corvette is manufacturing them as the engine is already in the C8-R. As for turbos vs supercharger the turbos will give you turbo lag as they have to speed up when you stomp the pedal. Supercharger (Z06 & ZR-1) have no lag but add weight.

Excellent article explaining the difference. Thanks for posting. Basically if I understand it correctly, Higher RPM to produce Horse power and lower torque therefore requiring tubos to boost the torque.

I doubt they'll continue with the superchargers with the advances that have been made with turbo technology and the issues they had with the C7 Z06.

Here is a video which shows how Koenigsegg and Volvo have solved the spool up issues. And I'm hoping the GM engineers have been studying what Koenigsegg have done with their 5.0L 1600HP 1100 Ft-Lb of torque flat crank engine:

I really enjoy this YouTuber, Engineering Explained. Here is video also explaining the difference between a cross and flat plane crank:

I didn't hear of any supercharger issues with the C7 Z-06. Just heard of over heating issues from all that HP. Lot more radiators on later series Z06.
Even the C8 is packed with radiators wherever they could find space. Less of a breeze without the frontal area.
